Louis H. Reilly, age 97, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo.
He was born on a farm in Norwalk, Ohio, August 15, 1916,the youngest of seven children, all whom preceded him in death. He went to a one-room school house for eight years and graduated from New London High School in 1934. Louis came to Toledo in 1935, during The Great Depression, and worked for the former National Supply Co. for 23 years and retired from the former DeVilbiss Co. after 20 years as a machine shop foreman in 1979. In 1940, he married Mildred Pheifer, from Norwalk, Ohio, who preceded him in death in 1987. He honorably served his country in the Army during World War II and is a member of Conn Weissenberger American Legion Post 587.
He is also a member of Eagles post 197 on Jackman Road. In 1990, he married Irene Gruen, who preceded him in death in 2010. During retirement he bowled in several leagues and enjoyed playing golf in the summertime. He loved to dance and was a member of the Toledo Area Polka Society and International Music Society.
Louis is survived by his daughters, Janice (Ken) Zeman, Barbara Murawski Reilly; sons, Donald Reilly, Richard (Jeannine) Reilly; stepsons, Rodney (Nancy) Gruen, Gary (Barbara) Gruen, David (Deb) Gruen; stepdaughters, Connie Gruen, Karen Jambor; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 4 greatgreat-grandchildren; 14 step grandchildren, and 20 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Kathy Reilly. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Clement Church. Friends are invited to visit from 2 to 8 p.m., Sunday, at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue, where a scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. Interment in Calvary Cemetery.
