MANSFIELD - Fred Houghtlen, 72, of Mansfield, died Saturday at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky.
He was born June 25, 1935, in Norwalk, and had lived in Mansfield for the last 20 years, having grown up in the Collins area. He had worked at Tenneco in Milan.
He was a member of the Moose Club in Galion, and enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as "Papa."
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth (Reer); children and their spouses, Donya (Melvin) Lloyd of Milan, Randy (Linda) Houghtlen of Milan, Kevin (Betty Jane) Houghtlen of Milan, and Tresa (Joe) Ohlemacher of Norwalk; siblings and their spouses, Bonnie Houghtlen of Norwalk, Dale (Fran) Houghtlen of Norwalk, Shirley (Jack) Church of Bowling Green, Mabel Rossi of New Jersey, and Flossie Meade of Norwalk; mother-in-law, Christine Reer of Norwalk; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Donna (Farley) Houghtlen, a brother Kenneth, three sisters Donna, Neva, and Betty and his father-in-law Fred Reer.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Morman-Hinman-Tanner Funeral Home, 38 South St., Berlin Heights, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Joyce Schroer officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
