WILLARD -- Walter H. Leber, Sr., age 82, of Willard, died Friday, August 9, 2013 after a 3 month illness.
He was born April 1, 1931 in Monroeville, Ohio, son of the late Edgar and Rhea (Weilnau) Leber.
Walter had lived most of his life in the Greenwich area. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War as a truck driver, hauling troops and fuel. Walter owned and operated Alpha Acres family dairy farm for over 30 years. He was a member of the former Greenwich American Legion and a lifetime member of the Norwalk V.F.W. Firelands Post 2743, the Farm Bureau and he was the 1987 Firelands Farmer of the Year. Walter loved to pull tractors, collect antique "green" tractors, riding snowmobiles, and playing cards especially pinochle.
He is survived by his wife, Helen (Heitsche) Leber, whom he married September 4, 1954; his children, Walter (Fay) Leber of Greenwich, Patty (Russell) Paramore of Virginia, Theresa (Erik) Hansen of Sandusky, Lori (Don) Sparks of Plymouth, Larry (Mendy) Leber of Plymouth, Wendy (Bryan) Oney of North Fairfield, Norman Leber of Willard and Frances (Kelly) Bussart of Willard; 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren; 5 brothers and 2 sisters, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by 2 great granddaughters, Abby and Taylor and 3 brothers.
Friends may call from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 49 West Main St., Greenwich where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Jim Gaston officiating.
Burial with military rites will follow at the Ninevah Cemetery, Greenwich.
