NORWALK - Albert "Leo" Ashley Jr., 81, of Norwalk died Tuesday morning in Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky.
He was born July 18, 1926 in Sandusky, son of the late Albert Leo and Addie W. (Smith) Ashley Sr. and had lived in this area for more than 50 years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He enjoyed attending services at Sorrowful Mother Shrine.
He was formerly employed at the Huron County Courthouse in their maintenance department, for Philco TV in Sandusky, as a meat cutter for Kie's Grocery Store, for Blinzley's Furniture Store selling and delivering furniture, and for Perfected Furniture and Appliances. He loved fishing, boating, riding motorcycles, flying and making model airplanes.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret (McGinn) Ashley of Norwalk; twin sons and daughters-in-law, William A. Ashley and Sophie Sowlidis of Oregon, Ohio, Edward "Ed" and Shana Ashley of Joplin, Mo.; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Autumn Ashley of Norwalk; daughters and son-in-law, Aleta and David Kovach of Norwalk, and Marie Giles of Berlin Heights; twin daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and P.J. Garcia Chandler, Ariz., and Sandra and Scott Wilcox of Norwalk; 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two children, Francis Elizabeth Ashley and Michael Anthony Ashley; half-brother Carl Koester; and a granddaughter, Tonya Giles.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, where prayer services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday. A burial Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 38 W. League St., Norwalk. The Rev. Francis Speier will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
