GREENWICH Jonny Lee Clevenger, 59, of Greenwich, died Tuesday at Fisher Titus Medical Center in Norwalk after a sudden illness.
He was born Sept. 20, 1948 in Galion, son of the late Murriel and Harriet (Westbrook) Clevenger. He had lived most of his life in Greenwich.
He was a 1966 graduate of South Central High School. He served in the Navy on the USS Canberra in Vietnam from 1966 through 1969. He had worked at Jennings Ready Mix in Willard and New London and at the S&W Grill in Greenwich for several years.
He had worked as a custodian for the South Central School system for the past 24 years. He was a member of the New London American Legion Broome Wood Post 292 and a life time member of the Norwalk V.F.W. Post 2743.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Karen (Gemmel) Clevenger; daughter, Kendra (Ben) Ryerson of Willard; two grandsons and one granddaughter; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Gemmel of Norwalk; a brother, Michael (Judy) Clevenger of Mesa, Ariz.; a half-brother, Charles (Jan) Metzger of Mansfield; a sister, Kathy Clevenger and Mike Schwab of Greenwich; sisters-in-law, Betty (Jim) Caughey of Port St. Joe, Fla., and Bev (Jonathan) Morgan of Norwalk; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Ed Hutchinson; a brother, Jackie Clevenger; and his father-in-law, George Gemmel.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Eastman Funeral Home, 49 W. Main St., Greenwich, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Georgette Gaston of the Greenwich United Methodist Church officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery.
