SANDUSKY, Ohio — Donald E. Baican, 63, of Monroeville, Ohio, went home on Thursday, May 23, 2013, after a brief illness, at Stein Hospice, Sandusky, Ohio, surrounded by friends and family who loved and respected him dearly.

Born November 10, 1949 in Norwalk, Ohio, Don spent most of his life in Monroeville attending St. Joseph Catholic School, Monroeville High, then onto Andrews Barber College of Toledo, Ohio where he became a professional barber.

He then hired out as a yard conductor achieving many safety awards and citations, first on Norfolk and Western Railroad then the Norfolk Southern Railroad retiring in 2009 after 37 years of dedicated and loyal service. In his free time he volunteered on the Monroeville Fire Department for many years.

"Donnie" was an avid hunter, trapper, fisherman, and supporter of the Izzak Walton League of America. He also supported the Fraternal Order of Police and American Legion. His hobbies included model railroading and collecting vintage guitars. He had such a love for his cats and the wildlife that frequented his homestead.

Surviving are his sons, Donald Jr., his wife Cindy, and their daughter, Jyl, of Monroeville, Ohio. Scott of North Port, Florida and Christopher and his daughter, Tarron, of Monroeville, Ohio. By his brothers, Robert, his wife Kathy and their daughter, Erica of Norwalk, Ohio, by David, his wife, Dena, of Monroeville, Ohio and their daughter, Shawna of Newport News, Virginia, and son Dan of Norwalk, Ohio, along with Don's special friend, Judy Seisel of Norwalk, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Cathrine (Playko) Baican.
