SANDUSKY - Shirley Friedman-Pifer, 71, of Sandusky and formerly of Monroeville, died Wednesday at her home with her family and loved ones at her side.
She was born Sept. 29, 1935 in Wakeman and was a customer care representative for Periodical Publishers, Sandusky retiring after more than 10 years of service. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sandusky, and a member of the Monroeville American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Carla and Angelo Elliott of Temperance, Mich. and Debra Collingsworth of Sandusky; a son, William "Billy" Friedman of Sandusky; a step daughter, Mary (Harold) Leber of Columbus; step sons, John (Cindi) Pifer, Jim (Sam) Pifer, both of Monroeville, and Bob Pifer; five grandchildren, six step grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Eunice Twaddle of Norwalk; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Sarah (Heitsche) Hand; husbands, William Friedman and John Pifer; a sister, Dora Urbansky; a brother, Gene Hand; and one step grandson.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home followed by a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sandusky. The Rev. Douglas Garand will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
