COLLINS - Carl R. Thompson, 89, of Collins, died Thursday at his residence.
He was born Dec. 21, 1917 in Spencer, son of the late Oren and Lela (Naylor) Thompson.
He was retired from the Norfolk & Southern Railroad. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, but attended services with his daughter at Victory Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran, servicing the country in the Army.
He is survived by daughters and a son-in-law, Alice Thompson and Ann Thompson, both of Collins, and Linda (Steve) Girton, of Bellevue; sons and a daughter-in-law, John (Shannon) Thompson of Norwalk, Lynn Thompson of Diego Garcia, and Leslie Thompson of Norwalk; six grandchildren; sisters, Iceola Mitchell, Donnabelle Harriman, Marylou Wagner and Naoma Marcum; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mildred (Trapp) Thompson; an infant daughter; brothers, Grover, Blake, Wilbur and Dallas; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Mitchell.
Arrangements are being handled by Hinman-Tanner Funeral Home, Berlin Heights.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m. today at Victory Baptist Church. Pastor Dan Hunt will officiate. Burial will follow in Spencer Cemetery in Spencer.
