Essic Belmer, Jr., 87, of Texas and formerly of New London, died January 24, 2013 at West Houston Medical Center. In New London on October 20, 1925, Essic, a hero, was born to the late Essic and Goldie (nee Heston) Belmer, Sr. In 1944, Essic enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served as a stenographer until 1946 when he was honorably discharged and received a Bronze Star.
He worked for U Brand until 1988 when he retired after 42 years. Essic enjoyed the company of his family and friends after retirement. He excelled at academics and loved to play checkers and cards.
Survivors include his daughters, Marcy Belmer-Lerch, of TX and Cathy Kemp, of FL; grandchildren, Winston Pink, Darrius Lerch, Christa Girtman, Kara Girtman and Shelby Kemp and great granddaughters, Rhianna and Skyy Pink. Essic is also survived by siblings, Beatrice Brown and Clifford Belmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, in 2007; his siblings, Richard Belmer, Anna Lewis and Eloise Bowman, and his dog, Kiana.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 4 from 11:30 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service at the Second Baptist Church, 41 North Maple Street, New London.
