Opal Grosscup, 81, of Greenwich, died Friday, January 18, 2013 at her home.
Born March 14, 1931, in Ashland, Opal was a daughter of the late Leo and Ruth (nee Schindler) Gray. Opal worked at the New London Inn, as a cook at the New London Hospital and at Kent's Sporting Goods as a seamstress.
In her younger years, Opal loved to bowl and participated in several different leagues. She was a former member of the New London Eagles. Her other hobbies included crocheting, cooking and baking. Opal enjoyed gardening and watching birds. Most of all, she treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her soulmate of 21 years, Sid Lengyel; daughters, Gail (Jack) Stenger of Milan, Deb (Keith) Rakosky of New London, Vicki (Lenny) Krisha of Collins, Pam Romick of Huron, Cathy (Ernie) Rishaw of Greenwich, Susan Lengyel of Greenwich and Sandra Hunt of Brian, TX; 21 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and a brother, Don Gray, of Mississippi. Opal was preceded in death by her first husband, James Sickles; second husband, Bill Grosscup; daughter, Sherry Kelly; grandsons, Danny Mann and Kenny Krisha; great grandson, James Ford Krisha and sister, Marilyn.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, January 20 at Eastman Funeral Home, 49 W. Main St., Greenwich, and on Monday from 12 p.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at www.eastmanfuneralhome.com.
