Ruth Harkness, 78, of Norwalk, peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Gaymont Nursing Home in Norwalk.
She was born November 6, 1933 in Menlo, Georgia and was a resident of Norwalk for 61 years.
Ruth was a member of Porter's Memorial CME Church of Sandusky where she served on the usher board, as a stewardess and choir member. She also faithfully served at Norwalk CME Church. Her community involvement included the Socialites, founding member of the Holiday Gospel Singers, and Eastern Star Progressive Lodge 85.
She enjoyed quilting, cooking, baking, and gardening.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 61 years, Rayfield Harkness; 5 children, Dennis (Antionette) Harkness of Columbus OH, Herbert (Jennifer) Harkness of Lexington OH, Shirley (Stanley) Harkness-Jefferson of Mansfield OH, Tara Harkness of Columbus OH and Christopher Harkness of Norwalk OH; a brother, Ray Thompson of Summerville GA; sisters, Sarah Ruth Thompson of Summerville GA and Nancy (Dee) White of Menlo GA; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; a special great niece, Edie Warner of Norwalk OH; 2 godchildren, Lisa Caffey and Troy Price; a dear friend, Goldie Crosby; and host of other loving relatives and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester Thompson and Charlsie Price; 3 brothers, John Henry Thompson, Donald Price and Buster Price Jr.; 3 sisters, Pearline McCloud, Nell Sperling, and Lucille Cameron.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013 from 11am until time of service at Noon, Porter's Memorial CME Church, 1722 Third Street in Sandusky OH, with Pastor Randolph White officiating and Pastor Steve Robinson of City of Deliverance in Lorain, as eulogist. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Norwalk OH.
