MT. DORA, Fla. - Ronald M. Garner, 82, of Mt. Dora and Sandusky, Ohio, died early Saturday afternoon in Waterman Village in Mt. Dora following a lengthy illness.
He was born April 16, 1925 in Richland County, Ohio. He retired from the former Vulcan Materials Company in 1986, after 41 years of service, and was a Lake Erie Charter Captain for 12 years. He was a World War II veteran of the Army.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sandusky.
He is survived by his wife, Jennie V. (Goodsite) Garner, whom he married Aug. 19, 1943; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald G. and Carol Garner of Friday Harbor, Wash. and David A. and Anna Garner of Hagerstown, Md.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brothers, David Z. Garner of Memphis, Tenn. and Robert Garner of Sandusky, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Ada (Connelly) Garner; and brothers, Carroll Garner and Nelson Garner.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Ned Bixler of Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk, Ohio.
