NORWALK - Dorothy E. Gates Missig, 89, of Norwalk and formerly of Monroeville, died Thursday evening at Norwalk Memorial Home following a lengthy illness.

She was born April 23, 1918 in Norwalk and was a graduate of Norwalk St. Paul High School. She was employed as a court reporter in the common pleas courts of Huron and Erie counties, retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroeville and the Daughters of Isabella.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Diane Gates of Grafton, and Douglas and Sandra Gates of Norwalk; three grandchildren; brothers, Harold Schafer of Monroeville and George Schafer of Phoenix; sisters, Sister Eleanor Schafer and Sister Bernadette Schafer, both of Toledo, and Mary Lippert of Mayfield Heights; stepchildren and their spouses, Marlene (Bob) Obringer of Powell, Marvin (Janet) Missig of Illinois, Jim (Jean) Missig of Illinois, Bob (Carol) Missig of Milan, Fred Missig of Norwalk, Susann (Ken) Harris of North Fairfield, Donna (Steve) Wilhelm of Monroeville and Donald (Nancy) Missig of Oak Harbor; a step daughter-in-law, Judy Missig of Norwalk; 26 stepgrandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Gates in 1948; second husband, Robert Missig in 1994; parents, Alfred and Eleanor (Meyer) Schafer; a sister, Rita Schafer; a brother in infancy, Bernard Schafer; a stepson. Kenneth Missig; and a stepgranddaughter.

At the request of the deceased, her body has been donated to the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Cleveland.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Pfeil Funeral Home’s Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe St., Monroeville, where a wake service will take place at 4:45 p.m. Sunday. A memorial Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 66 Chapel St., Monroeville. The Rev. Kenneth J. Lill will officiate.
