NORWALK, Ohio — William (Bill) Harkness, 81, passed away Friday, November 24, 2012 at Gaymont Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
He was born February 5, 1931 in Center, Alabama to the late William Harkness Sr. and Addie Mae (Fife) Webb.
Bill, as he was known to family and friends, worked many years at Clevite Harris, then he became a tile setter working for Corchoran & Sons. His proudest achievement while working there was tiling the Randall Park Mall during its construction. After his retirement, Bill enjoyed volunteering and received the Volunteer of the Year Award in 1988 from the Erie Huron CAC County Board of Trustees,
Bill is survived by his children, Karen Evon Thomas, JoAnn Harkness, Carol Lee Cambell, and Maxine Harkness, all of Norwalk, Ohio, Wanda Shoulders, Rocky Mt, VA, and Stewart Harkness of Sandusky, Ohio, by his Sisters, Annabell (James) Stewart, Norwalk, Ohio and Connetta Harkness, of Holland, Oh., by his Uncles, Ray (Ruth)Harkness, Norwalk, John Henry Harkness Atlanta, Ga., and Lother Harkness, Gasden , Al. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and numerous other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, by his sister, Rev. Sharon Lynn Smith and numerous other relatives and family members.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Sat. Dec. 1, 2012 at Christ Temple Glorious Church-56 Glover Ave. Memorial contributions may be made to the Norwalk Salvation Army, 55 Whittlesey Avenue, Norwalk, Ohio.
