GROVE CITY Caroline H. Acree, 91, of Norwalk, died Tuesday at the home of Shane and Jennifer Maynard and Barb Lanius of Grove City after a short illness.
She was born Aug. 30, 1915 in Lorain to the late George and Joanna (Laning) Hutcheson.
She received a master's degree in education from the University of Chicago. She married the late Lester Acree on July 19, 1939 and they taught school for 50 years in Greenville, Miss. during the integration of the public schools. She taught Latin, Greek and English. She retired from teaching in October 1990 and moved to Norwalk where she resided with William and Barbara Lanius.
She was a member of the Norwalk First United Methodist Church where she belonged to the United Methodist Women, and the Wesleyan Circle. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women, and was a 50-year member of the Queen Esther Chapter No. 15 Order of the Eastern Stars where she was a five time Worthy Matron. She was an avid genealogist, and was descended from the Pioneer families of Griffin, Laning, Sheldon and Wood.
She enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and Hawaii. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and reading.
She is survived by her niece, Patricia Acree; and two great-nieces, one great-nephew and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Acree; a stepbrother, Wade Zimmerly; and a stepsister, Mary Emma Zimmerly.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Norwalk First United Methodist Church, 60 W. Main St., Norwalk. The Rev. Edna Stahl will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Dover, Tenn.
