NORWALK - Owen S. Workman, 80, of Norwalk, died early Wednesday morning in Mt. Carmel St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville.
He was born Sept. 21, 1926, in Jelloway to the late Samuel J. and Lillian (Scholles) Workman and came to this are in the 1980's.
He was a veteran of the Army. He received a degree in business from Ohio State University. He taught Banking at Lorain County Community College during the 1970s. He started at National Bank of Detroit in 1951. He was president and CEO of National City Bank of Norwalk from the late 1970's until 1992. He was a founding member of the Norwalk Community Development Corp., the Masonic Lodge of Elyria, Elks Lodge, Norwalk Kiwanis, The American Institute of Banking, Plumbrook Country Club, and Elyria Country Club. He was also the president of Norwalk Chamber of Commerce. He loved fishing and his animals. He was well liked in banking and business.
He is survived by his wife, Judith of Norwalk; a son, Brian Eugene Workman of Bevercreek; a daughter, Leslie Workman of Columbus; and a sister, Doris Banberry of Mount Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald, Gerald and Byron Workman; and sisters, Wava Hammond and Ruth Linkenfelter.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk. Friends may also call from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. The Rev. Fred Wiechers, pastor of St. Peter Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be private.
