Robert E. Kline, age 90, of Norwalk, died Sunday evening, August 5, 2012 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, where he had been a resident for a year.

He was born August 22, 1921 in New Washington to Clara (Kanney) and John J. Kline. Bob graduated from St. Paul High School in 1939 and Officers Candidate School in Fort Trumbull, New London, CT in 1943, and married Mary Ruth Landoll August 28, 1946.

Bob loved connecting with people and sailing/seeing the world. He was a natural salesman, a hard worker and saver, always on the go. As a child, Bob sold newspapers and set pins in a bowling alley.

As a teen, he lent his parents money for a new home. Bob's career in the Merchant Marines began during World War II to deliver troops, supplies and bombs; he also delivered supplies during Viet Nam War and for Desert Storm the year he turned 69. Bob co-owned and operated the Side O'Hill Dairy Store with his brother-in-law, George Woodward for 21 years. He worked 16 years at New Departure Hyatt Bearings in Sandusky until he retired in 1983.

Never one to sit still long, Bob kept busy in his retirement, starting up several Knights of Columbus chapters, serving as District Deputy, and selling thousands of K of C raffle tickets. Bob never met a stranger. He loved meeting new people. He traveled to Europe to explore his genealogy. He enjoyed playing cards regularly. He worked at the polls during elections. He always had a garden and spent hours in the woods.
