PLYMOUTH — Deborah Sue "Debbie" Smith, 47, of Plymouth, died Tuesday at the MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a short illness.
She was born Jan. 13, 1960, to Woodrow and Ruth (Moore) Smith and had been a life long Plymouth resident recently residing at Cherry Hill Group Home.
She had worked at the Richland Newhope Industries for nearly 30 years, and was a graduate of the Richland Newhope School where she played basketball and was a cheerleader. She was a medal winner for the Richland County Special Olympics.
"Turkey," Debbie loved her family, Lake Erie, music and dancing, coloring, playing games and chocolate. She had a nickname for everyone, and could easily make a stranger a friend.
She is survived by her father, Woodrow "Woody" Smith; a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Francine Smith; a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Douglas Dickson, all of Plymouth; four nieces, Stephanie (Jeff) Herron of Columbus; Jenny (Tim) Howard of Medina; Kathy Dickson of Bluffton; and Cortney (Jeremy) Dalton of Columbus; an uncle, aunts and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Smith; and a niece, Lynn Smith.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Secor Funeral Home in Plymouth. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plymouth. The Rev. Leonard Shatkus will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth.
