GREENWICH Violet R. Buskey, 94, of Greenwich, died Wednesday at Hillside Acres in Willard.
She was born April 23, 1912 in Bourne, Mass. to the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Hallsworth) Manktelow.
She graduated from Fitchburg High School in Massachusetts. She lived in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut for several years before returning to Greenwich in 1995.
She retired in 1977 from Carrington Co. in Leominster, Mass. She was a member of the former 20th Century Reading Circle in Greenwich. She was an active member of Grange Lodge in Shirley, Mass., the Massachusetts State Grange and the Greenwich Grange; her total Grange membership was 65 years. While living in New England, she belonged to a Mineral Club, became an avid rock hound and took many field trips looking for the one sought after piece of mineral. She was made a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow by her son, Bob, in 2005. In the spring she always looked forward to planting flowers in her patio area. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Diane Buskey of Greenwich; daughters Lois A. Murray of Hamden, Conn. and Carolyn M. Buskey of Greenwich; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Aubrey Manktelow in July of 1982.
There will be no visitation; a memorial gathering will take place at a later date.
