WILLARD Owen Slone, 82, of Willard, died Tuesday in Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk.
He was born Feb. 21, 1925 in Hollybush, Ky. to the late Green and Mary (Perry) Slone and had been a Willard resident since 1968.
He had worked in the coal mines in Kentucky and retired from MidWest Industries in Willard. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and camping.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, AfoGean and Ronald Jones of Shelby, Brenda and James Hall of Plymouth, Lillian Sanders of Norwalk and Sharon and Brad E. Jones of Willard; sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Diana Slone of Butler and Clinus and Teresa Slone of Willard; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Doffie Slone of Kentucky and Dencil Slone of Willard; sisters, Sharlene Carmean, Wilma Wright and Ella Mae Nester, all of Willard, Ada Thornsberry, Artie Harris, Nonnie Anderson and Connie Slone, all of Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Stellie (Caudill) Slone in 1980; a son-in-law, Robert W. Sanders, Jr.; a grandson, Chad Taulbee; a great-grandson, Haven W. Soergel; and brothers, Ralph, Maynard and Silas Slone.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Secor Funeral Home in Willard, were funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Danny Hamilton will officiate. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven.
