Reflector Photos by Jeff Van Natta
This is very cool. It is very gratifying to see our local cops, giving so generously to teach kids, just how kind, cool and generous cops normally are. Here's hoping the memories stick all the days of these young people's lives.
Would be nice if the donations were made without plastering the faces of these needy children all over the Reflector. With the use of social networking these children are sure to face ridicule from their peers at school.
thank you Brickly..... I think that programs like this are helpful in so many ways.. it gives low income kids a Christmas, it helps the parents to feel better about life and themselves.., and upgrades the spirits of so many people, and helps to make a positive role model out of the Police and make them "more human" to all involved, and point out that they are more than a uniform, and a means to be ticketed and arrested.>br> With that being said, I also feel strongly, that everyone deserves respect, and to plaster low income families pictures on the web site, and in the printed paper , does NOT show them the respect that they deserve. While I am at it, I also have been uplifted by the yearly stories of the Thanksgiving means provided by so many of the local food banks, churches and organizations, BUT to take pictures of the grateful low income people and plaster them all over the media outlets, also takes away their dignity, and probably stops an unknown amount of needy from coming to get a hot meal, out of fear that their family's situation will be tomorrows "water cooler" topic.I will guess that very soon we will also see the pictures of needy families getting a well intended gesture of kindness and good will from another church, or business or organization, but could you please not take the pictures of the families or the children? I know it is well intended, but it might just take a child's Christmas, from "wonderful" to "horrific", from the taunting s of their classmates, and neighbors...Have a Blessed and Merry Christmas...
