The aged roof on Monroeville's school has been leaking, and the recent heavy rain and wind brought from the remnants of Hurricane Sandy caused further problems. District officials have a levy on the Nov. 6 ballot which, if passed, would be used for improvements, including a new roof. Here are pictures of the leakage and clean-up Tuesday.

This is a school with a lot of pride,and very successful graduates.No matter what you did in life you were proud to have been a Monroeville Graduate.Let all the former graduates get behind this levy and support it.Gert said it all,twice !
The Norwalk school board members should take a close look at these photos and learn what the word "NEED" really means.

Having Been to 3 "Monroeville's" in my truckdriving travels. I can say this. The one by Pittsburgh,is wierd,being loaded with 'Steeler' fans.(need I say more?)The one by Ft.Wayne, Ind is a darn cool farming city with good rich black dirt,that you want to eat,best of all everyone you met there is friendly. Or put another way exactly like my all-time favorite and next door neighbor our beloved "Monroeville"
Truth be told,because you 'Monroevilleites' who have provided so many awesome sports memory's, as well as the best fish fry in America,are so cool. I root my heart out for you( except when you play St.Paul:)
So here's rooting for you in your levy vote. As no city in Huron County faces the challenges you do. As I understand it,your school millage is already at, or near, the top one in Huron county.Then add this; every other district in the county has a new, or almost new school building,while your school ages,then leaks. Which leave you with obvious rebuilding disadvantages
So here's hoping you vote your levy in. Then continue,using those great talents,which have made you America's best 'Monroeville'. As those talents, working together have built great heritages,fields,teams,dreams. Certainly,those great, unselfish, talents will rebuild your great city.

According to what was posted on youtube then posted on Facebook. The STEEL beams are rotting / rusting away. Before putting a new roof on. Wouldn't make more sense to have a structural engineer look at the damage to these beams before installing a roof?
I thought the new income tax was supposed to pay for all the district needs? Were we not promised no more levies and that some would be allowed to fall off? This levy along with all the others is unconstitutional and should be voted down strictly based upon that fact. If the schools want more money they should go about it lawfully.
On March 24, 1997, Justice Francis E. Sweeney wrote for the 4-3 majority: “By our decision today, we send a clear message to lawmakers: The time has come to fix the system. Let there be no misunderstanding. Ohio’s public school-financing scheme must undergo a complete systematic overhaul.”
Until this is accomplished I and everyone else should send a clear message to school districts and the state with a solid vote of no. Do not let your emotions rule this matter let your pocketbook.

Comical because it has been 15 years and yet the schools or state have still not done anything to fix the corrupt system?
Do I think the system is broke....not necessarily. The public sector is kinda like an old classic car that you see in car shows. Looks good on the outside, but open up the hood and its all "outdated". I think there a good things about the system they have set up, but also some bad things that need adjusted. SB5 went overboard and that is the truth. There was way to much stuff in it that didn't need to be in it to make the point that they were trying to make. Honestly, I think the biggest problem is their unions. If the actual workers could sit down with state officials and figure out a solution, we as a nation would be better off. But unions will not allow that. With that being said, don't take out your frustration on your local teacher. They do their job and for the most part do it very well. They don't like pay freezes just like you don't like pay freezes but many schools have done just that. Positions are being cut around this area left and right. The school needs desperate repair.
You are right SB5 could have been written better and had it been probably would have passed. The school needs repair, but how much money should we pour into it? At some point you have to break down and buy that new car to replace the classic because it will nickel and dime you? I am not for replacing the school on the current method of funding, but you can bet your bottom dollar if they stop funding schools by unfairly taxing a portion of the citizens I will vote yes every time the need arises. I voted for the income tax and pay far more in income tax than I do in property tax and am happy to do so. We have done nothing in 15 years to change the funding of schools and are all happy to take the federal governments handouts instead of finding a fiscally responsible way to cover our needs.
You are absolutely right about nothing being done about funding.All politicians are afraid to suggest any changes because of backlash.It is the same problem in Congress.First of all this country is close to being completely divided on every issue.I am in favor of anything for the good of all , that are willing to help pay their fair share or work for it.
I have one thing to say and that is if you would have fixed roof with levy money passed years ago as it was intended to be used for you wouldn't have this problem! I agree it is disgusting looking at this but you won't see no tears running down my cheeks because of YOUR stupidity,you got the seniors to vote the taxes on the working stiffs of that town,now,deal with your own makings! I suppose they will whine when the re-evaluated taxes come in for farm ground in the school district next year too (according to the NR they went up 174%)
the levy asked for the last time was for operating not permanent improvement they cannot be substituted for each other
I am not talking about the income tax levy,this levy was passed at least 4 years ago and was specified for the repair or replacement of the roof.
Hit the road jack..0 = outstanding. Monroeville District Officials.. I = incomplete / failure to tax ALL fairly.
Why dont they take a picture of my empty wallet,so the school board can see that.
Because the dust mites that would come flying out are a health hazard for the photographer.
