Willard St. Francis Xavier student Bella Newman placed first in the annual National Association of Conservation Districts poster contest, sponsored locally by the Huron Soil and Water Conservation District. Fellow St. Francis student Analy Cirilo placed second. Placing third in the local contest was Kaylee Kolb of Western Reserve. The theme of this year’s contest was “Dig Deeper: Mysteries in the Soil.” Walmart donated $1,000 to the program, which was used to buy seedlings for students throughout the county. Representing Walmart at a recent tree-planting event at Newman's school were manager Tonya Davis and community leader Nancee Seitz. Representing the Huron Soil and Water Conservation District were manager Chad Stang and administrative assistant Alisa Schaffer.
