A grease fire in the kitchen resulted in a blaze that consumed this house at 9085 Ohio 113 in Berlin Township on Wednesday evening. The mother and her son escaped the house with two of their dogs. However, one German shepherd and a pet snake died. Authorities said the home was engulfed when firefighters arrived. The house was a total loss. At least 25 firefighters were on scene with 14 trucks, in addition to responders from an ambulance service and the Erie County Sheriff's Office. State Route 113 East between Wright Road and Andress Road in Berlin Township is currently closed due to a structure fire. We will notify you by email once the road has been reopened.
