Out of all these pictures, in picture 107 there is a guy standing with his hat off and over his heart. This is the only one I see out of all the pictures of someone doing this in honoring the Vets. 5 groups of pictures of the parade and this is the only one. HOW SAD IS THAT? Not even one person with their hand over their heart. Just one man.
Where I sitting some did not even stand for the flag or the military. So sad
When I was little, I remember putting my hand over my heart, and I was thinking the other military had to salute or something. I thought I was supposed to put my hand over my heart, but even the old guy next to me didn't, so I thought maybe they changed it. So I didn't do it either, but I felt like I was supposed to.
Standing is showing respect to the colors. If you are not in the military and you have a hat on, removing it as the colors pass is another sign of respect. Military personnel show respect by saluting the colors as they pass, and as the colors are raised and lowered from a flag pole. The hand over the heart is something we did in school.
