Pictures posted of vigil for Jesika Skelton

Family and friends gathered Saturday evening in front of the Huron County Sheriff's Office for a candlelight vigil about a year after the death of the 20-year-old Norwalk woman.

Skelton's mother, Christina Zapata, discussed her daughter's death, accomplishments and legacy -- including organ donations that helped save nine lives. A feature story about the event was published on the front page of Tuesday's Reflector. To read the story, pick up a copy of that issue of the Reflector or subscribe to the e-paper (a complete digital replica of the issue) for less than $1 per week and read it now.

I'm so sick of you people thinking you know jess. I can almost bet none of you know the real story you just know what the paper decides to publish. So before you go judging her maybe you should get your facts straight.

Fact: She was in and out of Juvy since her teens. Fact: She dated known scum Kyle McConnel Fact : she was convicted of a FELONY Fact: she swallowed pills another girl smuggled in to jail in her vjj ... GROSS So there you go fact after fact of the real story. Yep she's a real gem this one. I knew her and so did the cops and fortunate for us now so does Lucifer.

Well, I for one am glad that I knew Jesika and glad my kids were able to get to know her.She was a very sweet young lady who had her angst like alot of us do and she made some wrong choices and was trying to do what was right. The circumstances surrounding her death were tragic and heartbreaking and her and her family will always be in my thoughts. Tina you have more strength than I ever could and my sympathy and prayers for you and your family. And as for the asinine above me in the comments, I actually feel pity for you and your lack of compassion and empathy. What a sad and hateful person you must be. May whatever negative thoughts and energy you put out come back to you 3fold until your dying days.

I have compassion and empathy. Just NOT for druggies and thieves. DRUGS are a CHOICE. Addiction to drugs is a CHOICE. She made her choice. Even IN jail she had no desire to get clean or change her ways. She used drugs that were in someone's "whoha"....I am sorry that is hitting rock bottom!

I am sure she would have loved the candlelight vigil-plenty of open flame. Then all she would have needed was a spoon, a syringe, and her "medicine"

To all the negative people this girl has a family she left behind. I do not know her or her family but as a human being I can sympathize with their pain. I know the pain of watching a loved one battle the fight with drugs yes it is a choice to start them but coming off isn't so easy for some drugs.Everyone really should keep the negative comments to their selves out of respect for the family that lost a loved one. Even if she was troubled the family still deserves the respect.
