MONROEVILLE — Jim and Marilyn Gravenhorst, of Monroeville, recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Mr. Gravenhorst married the former Marilyn Hay, from Bellevue, on Sept. 6, 1969, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bismark.

Jim and Marilyn are the parents of Larry (Chris) Gravenhorst of Monroeville; Bob (Andrea) Gravenhorst of Monroeville; and Judy Gravenhorst of Roanoke, Ind. They are the grandparents of five grandchildren; Randie, Riley, Reece, Jayden, and Anthony.

Jim is retired from the Monroeville Co-op and Ridgefield Township, but still works part-time for Underground Utilities, while Marilyn is retired from the Hen House in Norwalk.

On Friday Jim and Marilyn were honored with a Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Monroeville, and then with a party hosted by their children at St. Alphonsus Hall, Norwalk.

The couple met on blind date that was set up by a family member. They enjoy spending time with the family and friends, gardening and helping on the family farm. According to Jim and Marilyn, the secret to their long marriage has been to “pray a lot and to compromise,” especially when you don’t see eye to eye. Some of the more enjoyable experiences over the past 50 years have been spending time with family and watching their children and grandchildren grow up.
