DANBURY TOWNSHIP —  The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle, double-fatal crash that occurred Thursday at the intersection of E. Bay Shore Road and S. Danbury North Road.

A 1996 Ford E-350 Econoline sustained disabling damage. The van was driven by Austin Lepole, 25, of Lakeside Marblehead. Lepole did not sustain any injuries and was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

A 2019 Harley Davidson sustained disabling damage. The motorcycle was driven by Wayne E. Keller, 73, of Elmore, Ohio. Keller suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Keller’s passenger, which identity is still unknown, also sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Both Keller and his passenger were not wearing helmets.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Don’s Towing.

The van was traveling southbound on S. Danbury North Road while the motorcycle was traveling east on E. Bay Shore Road. The van failed to yield at the posted stop sign and was struck by the motorcycle.  Keller and his passenger were both pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ottawa County coroner.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash which remains under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Danbury Twp. Fire and EMS, Danbury Police Department, Marblehead Police Department, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Ottawa County Coroner, and Walker Funeral Home & Crematory.
