Corwin Street from Madison Street to Cedar Street will be closed for construction beginning at 7 a.m. and lasting to 5 p.m. today. The street will remain closed until the construction is completed in about two weeks.

A 17-year-old New London boy denied taking pieces of the 110-year-old New London Civil War monument during a hearing Wednesday afternoon in Huron County Juvenile Court. The boy also requested a defense attorney represent him during further hearings the theft charge in connection with the July 23 incident.

MONROEVILLE - The Monroeville Public Library will be starting their Story Time and Tiny Tots programs Tuesday. Story Time is for children ages 3 years to kindergarten. The time is 7 to 7:30 p.m. Tiny Tots is for children ages 18 months to 3 years. The time is 7 to 7:20 p.m. Parents are required to stay with the Tiny Tots. Children will listen and participate in stories, songs, rhymes and a craft each session.

Norwalk High School class of 1957 held its 50-year reunion the weekend of Aug. 17 to 19 in Norwalk. On Aug. 17, an informal gathering was held at Hunter's Glen shelter house. Many classmates, spouses and guests attended and remembered good times from 50 years ago.

Marine Corps Pvt. Christopher E. Howard, a 2006 graduate of Plymouth-Shiloh Local High School, Plymouth, Ohio, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S. C. designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally. Howard and fellow recruits began their training at 5 a. m., by running three miles and performing calisthenics. In addition to the physical conditioning program, Howard spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments which included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training. They performed close order drill and operated as a small infantry unit during field training.

WILLARD - Firelands Habitat for Humanity will hold a home dedication for Butler and Mazelle Moore at 3 p.m. Sept. 9. The celebration will take place at their new home at 122 Hayes St. in Willard. The home was built by many dedicated volunteers who worked along side the Moores to help make their dream of becoming homeowners a reality. The Moores partnered with Habitat two years ago and helped build their home and also the homes of other partner families.

There are things important to me in life. There's my wife, children, parents, brother, relatives ... and then there is Rush. This band, which has been around for more than 30 years, has meant more to me than any college course I ever took. That's why Norwalk resident Keith Ridge and I made the 150-mile trip Tuesday night to the DTE Energy Music Theatre north of Detroit for the Rush concert. That's also why I'm headed to Blossom Music Center tonight for another Rush performance.
