And yet there's one situation in life where we are forced to make decisions based on the outside alone. In this situation, we must assess the contents based on the "cover." That situation is when buying fruit.

The Norwalk Police Department is requesting assistance from anyone who may have witnessed a vehicle-pedestrian accident on Milan Avenue across from the V.F.W. at about midnight Tuesday. Nicko D. Raymore, 27, of 57 Baker St., Apt. 18, was struck by a southbound vehicle as he was attempting to cross Milan Avenue. The vehicle did not stop. The man was knocked to the ground. He was taken by family members to Fisher-Titus Medical Center.

Mark your calendars the Maple City Heritage Festival is set for September 2008. The festival committee announced yesterday that it would be postponing the Heritage festival until next year. Last year was the first year of the Norwalk festival.

Local benefit NEW LONDON - A benefit spaghetti dinner will take place from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the New London Reservoir Park. The cost is a $5 donation per meal. The proceeds will benefit the Curt Case family. Case has been a season camper for more than 20 years and recently died from cancer. His family is struggling to pay his extensive medical bills. Entertainment will be provided by Clint Yates.

WELLINGTON - The Ohio Outdoor Quilt Festival, the largest outdoor quilt festival of its kind east of the Mississippi River, is now collecting quilts for its 2007 show on Aug. 11. The quilts will be displayed on the century old barns of Bonnie Brae Elk Farm on Quarry Road in Wellington. In addition to quilts for the outdoor portion of the festival, organizers are putting out a call for autograph or album quilts to be displayed indoors in a special exhibit. This century old tradition of making signed blocks for special events continues to this day. One of the album quilts to be displayed is from the Darke County area and was made in 1889. Another was autographed by guests at a recent wedding.

Smithson, 28, bikes the 10.5 miles to his first shift job at Norwalk Concrete Industries three times per week spring to fall.

The cost is $6 per person. Register by Friday. The "Parents Night Out" evening is slated for 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday. Children ages 4 to 12 are welcome. All children are asked to wear tennis shoes. SANDUSKY - A fire early this morning caused about $1 million in damage at Corso's Flower & Garden Center, located south of Sandusky on U.S. 250. Scene commander Dan Yost of the Perkins Township Fire Department said firefighters got the call at 5:55 a.m. today. "It took us 2 minutes to get there, if that," Yost said.

Any future comments using the seven words prohibited by the FCC, or any Internet-savvy variation thereof, will be automatically deleted, regardless of content. The previous standard - that all libelous or overtly threatening comments will be removed - also still stands. We want to provide a forum for vigorous debate, but we also want everyone to feel welcome. It is a difficult balance to strike and one we are still working towards.

WAKEMAN - A Vermilion man was arrested late Tuesday afternoon after an eight-mile pursuit that started in Wakeman and ended in Lorain County. Matthew R. Machock, 25, is accused of passing another motorist recklessly at speeds more than 55 mph and failing to stop for a stop sign, Police Chief Tim Hunker said. The eight-mile pursuit began on East Main Street in a 35 mph speed limit zone when Officer William Hodge checked Machock's license plate and determined the suspect was wanted on a felony warrant, police said.
