Drivers may wonder why gas prices vary so much from one community to another, but suppliers slam the lid shut on any questions about pricing structures. Gas station managers have their own ideas. "I think they sell gas at higher prices because the market will take it," said Robert Sunderman, manager at Sunrise in Norwalk. "It would be interesting to learn why the prices are different in Norwalk and New London when it's the same supplier and the same product."

Rural Norwalk resident Theodore Hackman is tossing his hat in the ring to run for the Fifth District Congressional seat left open by the unexpected death of Paul Gillmor (R-Tiffin). "This country needs a change," said Hackman, 38, who lives in Norwalk Township. "I don't feel that the people who are running the country now have the best interests of the country in their hearts and their minds."

Lacella Holbrook firmly believes a person she would only call "a family member" killed her daughter. Regina and Paul Hicks' divorce was pending at the time of Regina's October 2001 death. Paul, who has custody of the couple's son Montana, lives about two miles from the pond where his wife's body was found. Montana is now 10.

Mark Holden, a Willard police officer in 2001, vividly remembers the missing person case of Regina (Rowe) Hicks not feeling "right." The current New London police chief believes many times people reported missing have disappeared because they wanted to do so.

The Crop Disaster Program (CDP) provides benefits to farmers who suffered quantity and quality losses to 2005, 2006, or 2007 crops. CDP sign-up began on Oct. 15. Losses from natural disasters may qualify producers for financial assistance if the crop was planted before Feb. 28, or, in the case of prevented plantings, for crops that would have been planted before Feb. 28.

Recently, the senior girls at the high school challenged the junior girls to a "powder puff" football game girls only, with boys as cheerleaders on the side. You may have seen the photograph a few weeks ago on the front page of the Reflector. Sure enough, the girls were carrying the football and making the touchdowns. I didn't attend, but I was told many people did, and that there was much cheering and excitement. It makes for a fun annual event.

As years go by, we look at calendars. They remind us of birthdays, anniversaries, and we are reminded of past events, some happy, some sad. Six years ago in the newsroom of this publication, it was learned a body was discovered inside a car at the bottom of a pond, probably an accident, in the southwestern corner of Huron County. I was dispatched to the scene for pictures aware that the vehicle, body and investigators had cleared the scene.

A pilot and his live-in girlfriend have been charged with felonies for buzzing a high school football game Friday night. Daniel Lake, 52, of Perkins Township, was charged with inducing panic, and Diane Mulvin, 42, was charged with complicity after Lake flew a plane over the Perkins High School football field prior to the Pirates' game against Huron.

Ohio University recently appointed podiatrist Dr. James Revelas to clinical assistant professor of podiatry at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine until the beginning of 2010. The Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education (CORE) system is an integrated statewide medical education consortium formed by affiliations between Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-COM) and teaching hospitals in Ohio, as well as other colleges of osteopathic medicine nationwide. This is a CORE Group IV faculty appointment in the department of Specialty Medicine at OU-COM.

Diana Rodriguez, a registered nurse at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk, recently received her certification in critical care nursing. The CCRN credential is awarded to critical care nurses who have passed the 150-question, three-hour exam and who meet the eligibility requirements for hours of clinical practice in critical care. Eligible nurses must complete 1,750 hours in direct bedside care of acutely or critically ill patients within the last two years preceding date of application, with 875 of those hours accrued in the most recent year preceding application. The CCRN credential must be renewed every three years.
