Monroeville resident Bonnie Beck wishes to continue serving residents as village clerk-treasurer, while fellow resident Karen Reer is challenging her. Beck, 54, has been clerk-treasurer for 10 years, and seven years as assistant clerk and office assistant, also in the village offices. Beck, a Monroeville High School graduate, also served three years as administrative assistant for a clinical psychologist.

A Seneca County woman is accused of having six to seven balloons of heroin Thursday in the Huron County Jail. Stevie N. Hawley, 20, of Bloomville, was charged with illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a detention facility. Several villages will see contested races in Tuesday's general election. Contestants for Milan Council face a three-way race for two open positions. Voters will choose between Arthur W. Dickman of 48 Liberty Drive, David A. Jenkins of 92 Liberty St., and Richard Barkhimer, of 28 Edison Drive.

HURON - From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 16, in the Cedar Point Center at BGSU Firelands, Erie and Huron County job stores, the Huron Chamber of Commerce, the Erie County Chamber of Commerce and BGSU Firelands will sponsor the "Firelands Community Job Fair." The event is free and open to the public. Representatives from local and area employers in Sandusky, Norwalk, Bellevue, Willard, Elyria and Port Clinton will be looking for employees in manufacturing, technical, medical and clerical fields.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Alex J. Roeder has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises and special training in human relations.

TWINSBURG - St. Paul fought back from sizable deficits in both the first and third games Thursday in a Division IV regional semifinal volleyball match with Warren Lordstown (24-3) before winning 25-19, 25-15, 25-18 at Twinsburg High School. Nancy Miller's team improved to 24-2 and returns to Twinsburg High School at 2 p.m. Saturday, facing Kidron Central Christian (23-4), a 25-22, 25-17, 12-25, 25-18 winner over Ashtabula Sts. John & Paul during Thursday's second regional semifinal.

Armed robbery suspect James R. Porter was found guilty Thursday afternoon of robbery and theft. A Huron County Common Pleas Court acquitted the Mansfield defendant of aggravated robbery, the highest degree felony of the three charges. The jurors deliberated slightly more than two hours before reaching the verdict.

AVERY - The Lions Club of Norwalk awarded a &#036;300 scholarship to adult nursing student Denise Schaub, of Willard. The gift was made in memory of K Stone Flickinger, a long-time Lions Club member. John Flickinger, son of K, visited campus on Oct. 24 to meet Schaub. As a gesture of their dedication to training, the Norwalk Lions Club has pledged a total of &#036;1,500 for scholarships to be distributed in &#036;300 increments over the next five years.
