Norwalk Middle School students participated in the Annual Canned Food Drive last week.
This year the teachers turned the canned food drive into a competition among the four academic teams. Team Rockies (7th grade) brought in the most cans with 3,035. All four teams contributed a total of 8,079 cans which beat the 2008 total of 6,456 cans and the 2007 total of 7,832 cans.
Teachers stressed to the students the importance of helping out in their community during these tough economic times and almost 100-percent student participation in the charitable event.
"We thank all the students, parents, and community members who helped make the 2009 Norwalk Middle School Canned Food Drive a success," Dean of Students Frank Maire said.
