Just received the good news that Ace Frehley will play the House of Blues in Cleveland on Feb. 28. As I'm sure you know, Frehley was lead guitarist in Kiss from 1973 to 1982 and then again from 1996 to 2002.

CLEVELAND - "Bourbon at the Border' is billed as an emotional play exploring the painful aftereffects of harsh treatment during the Civil Rights era. But for the entire first act, one gets the sense the former activists are hardly disturbed anymore by the treatment they suffered some 30 years ago. From the play's opening scenes, "Bourbon' feels like an aimless, booze-filled celebration.

After all the positive comments and rave reviews I had heard about Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO), I finally decided to see them in concert. My wife Jessica and I caught the 9:30 p.m. concert on New Year's Eve at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

I'm ending the day the way I started it - with a cup of coffee. I really shouldn't, because the coffee will prevent me from sleeping well tonight. But what can I do? The column isn't done yet, and I'm getting sleepy. Caffeine is a drug, you say? And drugs aren't good for you, right? But my mother says it's all in my head. She drinks decaffeinated coffee, and she says it makes no difference to her, whether there is caffeine in the drink or not.

In the course of my research I have learned of a fourth man from the Firelands area who sat on the Ohio Supreme Court. He was Selwyn N. Owen, and joins with Ebenezer Lane of Sandusky in the 19th century and Clifford Brown of Norwalk and Thomas Moyer of Sandusky in the 20th Century as members of that judicial body. Selwyn N. Owen was born in 1836 in Steuben County, New York and was about six months old when his parents (Horatio and Clarissa Ransom Owen) settled in Norwich Township of Huron County. As soon as the railroad was built through that township and the village of Havana was established as a station, Horatio Owen established his home there and built a store and a grain warehouse.

A New London man was sentenced to 10 months in prison Tuesday for two business break-ins at the end of August. Huron County Common Pleas Judge Jim Conway offered defendant Dale R. Burrows, 37, of 33 Westwood Drive, to spend up to six months in a prison focusing on education and substance abuse treatment, but Burrows decided he didn't want to be on probation.
Read the rest of this story in Today's Reflector...

Stephen Schaeffer, Republican candidate for Erie County clerk of courts, will face the winner of the Democratic primary next November. Schaeffer, of Huron, said he hopes to improve "e-government" through a Web site to serve not only citizens of Sandusky, but citizens on the edges of the county in communities such as Milan, Bellevue and Vermilion.

Willard resident Delores Ceja submitted to a drug test before her arraignment on a possession of heroin charge Monday. A few minutes later, her bond was revoked. Huron County Assistant Prosecutor Daivia Kasper said Ceja should be held in custody without bond because she tested positive for opiates and Oxycontin. Huron County Assistant Public Defender David Longo said revoking his client's bond was inappropriate because Ceja had made her other court appearances. He also noted that any defendant being charged with drug possession could have a "dirty test" unless the person was seeking treatment.

There was no hearing today on the pending adoption proceedings for the ex-Gravelle children because the state filed a motion to exclude the media from further proceedings. A Huron County couple filed a petition in December to adopt one of the school-age children. Huron County Juvenile Prosecutor Jennifer DeLand sent her motion by fax about 9 p.m. Wednesday. Reporters were allowed to cover previous hearings related to the Gravelle custody and criminal cases, but the court placed restrictions on naming the specific children.
