How long did it take to change all your clocks this weekend? From watches, wall clocks and alarm clocks to those in DVD players, stoves and vehicles, it takes time to change time. And then there's the whole lost hour irritation.

NEW LONDON Council discussed the 100th Firelands Labor Day Festival at Monday's meeting. Although the September 2008 event is still a year and a half away, village officials are starting to make plans, and one of the things they want to do is increase spending for the fireworks display.

NEW LONDON Students and staff are losing part of their spring break because of the necessity of making up calamity days. The board of education met in special session Monday and voted to add April 10 to 13 to the school calendar, plus June 4.

Twilight Gardens Home Chapel Friends was back in action this past Sunday. Joan Yarber's picture "When I Come Home to Heaven" was the focus of the message from the Chapel Friends. The Holy Spirit is represented by a dove, the hands are of God. The Father and Jesus is shown hugging someone who just went to heaven. The picture also shows a rainbow. Marilyn Salisbury, Dessie Pinkman, Donna Hite, Joyce Orechia gave the presentation. Ken Drew sang and Leah Flaherty played the piano. Look for glamour shots in the newspaper, and in the activities department. The beautiful ladies and a few men are: Carole Schnellinger, Virginia Charity, Jeanette Hayden, Leona Boetticher, Carol Fries, Charlotte Kramer, Florence Silcox, Mary Patrick, Ruth Smith, Zeke Morgan, Betty Beal, Vera S., Phyllis Schmuck, Lil Cesa, Lucinda Dixon (dietary), Marlene Ward (activities department). Shauna Fries applied the makeup to all of the ladies. Residents played word/trivia game with a lot of people down for this. Faith Meinkie and Zella Kohler got the most correct. You scream, I scream, we all scream for ... banana splits??

When it comes to drug testing, schools in the area that have done it would happily do it again. "I think it gives students a reason to say 'no,'" said Brad Ehrman, athletic director in Upper Sandusky. That district stopped drug-testing due to the cost, he said.

Toast the Huron County Commissioners for moving forward with a $1.5 million project to replace the heating system in the courthouse and county office buildings on Main Street. The project itself is a good one, and will save the county money in the long run by increasing the energy efficiency in those buildings. The commissioners also deserve credit for not balking at the price tag, which could be as much as $2 million, after bids came in well over the county's initial estimates of $965,000. Sometimes it's cheaper to spend a little more money before a situation becomes an emergency. Roast the fact that Ohio is ranked fourth in the number of federal complaints filed by military reservists and National Guard members who contend they illegally lost jobs, pay or benefits because they were deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, according to a U.S. Department of Labor report. Now that the limits on the number of times a reservist or guard member could be deployed have been eliminated, businesses are placed in a tough position. However, businesses owe it to the brave men and women serving our country to follow the laws in place that protect the jobs and personal lives of those in the armed services.

GM and Ford hang by their fingertips off the edge of a cliff. Toyota is standing above them playing "This little piggy went to market." The soon-to-be-largest-automaker-in-the-world has just dropped a $5-billion investment into the one major product segment in the U.S. car market it has yet to dominate, according to "Automobile" magazine. That investment is called the Tundra.

COLLINS Twenty-eight vendors filled 61 tables with their goods recently at the 17th annual Western Reserve toy show sponsored by the Western Reserve Ruritan Club and held at the Western Reserve Elementary gym. Several of these dealers have participated in the show every year since its inception, and the first one the more than 500 visitors saw when coming in the door was Ashland resident Donna Williams. She and husband Tom own Tubo's Toy Box and as usual displayed a large selection of metal signs and neon clocks.
