Woman faces felony after Norwalk cop is punched in face

A woman accused of punching a Norwalk police officer in the face at a local nursing home has been indicted by a Huron County grand jury.

Bethany M. Aiello, 23, of 26 Spring St., Apt. A8, was one of 10 people indicted on felony charged Friday. She has been charged with assault in connection with a Jan. 8 incident.

Officer Paul Gardner was investigating a menacing complaint when the incident happened just after 2 p.m. at Gaymont Nursing Center, 66 Norwood Ave. Authorities said Aiello assaulted Gardner during the altercation.

"Ms. Aiello was taken into custody after a brief struggle with the officer. During the struggle, an employee of Gaymont also received minor injuries when she was kicked by Ms. Aiello," Officer Chris Kelley wrote in his report.

Norwalk Assistant Law Director T. Douglas Clifford said Aiello went to Gaymont after she reportedly sent threatening text messages to a relative that indicated she might cause serious harm to a Gaymont resident, also a relative of Aiello's. Clifford declined to elaborate.

Kelley was taking a statement at the station from the complainant who received the text messages when police were notified of the altercation with Gardner. Sgt. Dave Smith and Officer Dave Ditz responded.

"Police arrived. In the course of the investigation, she assaulted one of our police officers," Clifford said.

"It wasn't just resisting (arrest); it was an actual punch," he added.

Gardner didn't go to the hospital.

Last year, Aiello was fined a total of $200 for two disorderly conduct incidents investigated by Norwalk police on Jan 3, 2010 and July 14. She has no other criminal charges filed through municipal court.

That's a shame. Does she get help for this? At this point of being a danger to herself and others, I think it's imperative that she's under someone's care, gets the meds she needs, and counseling.

I am very much with you on this Swiss, No matter what her crime was that gives you no reason at all to get on here and judge her looks. It does not just take a women that acts like a man to slug someone. I am a women and I know that if I needed to slug someone I could. The way she looks has nothing at all to do with what she does. I bet half of the adults on here that are commenting on her looks are not what you would call a beauty queens and have quite a few flaws about them selves that people could rudely point out about them. Try to think how you would feel if the shoe was on the other foot.

Would it be possible to have the Moderator on the Wednesday Morning Live show?? IF of course there is a real moderator... I am beginning to believe that the only moderator is Joe and he only deletes things that are offensive if the people who have him on speed dial call him until he makes them happy..... I do NOT know this girl , but my heart goes out to her.. she obviously had a rough period, and lashed out in anger as I would bet , we all have done at one time or another.. the lashing out might have been vocal or physical, or both, but obviously it is not a specific incident that she takes pride in... OK it is against the law, and she was booked as should be.. BUT for anyone to get on here and attack her or anyone's appearance, or acne, or look in her eye...is total BULL $h!t..( i will probably be deleted for that)

I thought that the rules clearly stated that you could NOT make any PERSONAL ATTACKS????? what would you consider almost all of the blogs here???if people want to comment on her crime, have at it...But for people to make statements about her appearance or her short hair, or angry expression.. Please show me where it is written that women are supposed to have long hair, and men have short hair. and then please send that report to Sinead O Conner, and Annie Lennox, and John Lennon, etc, because they obviously weren't aware of your self implied rules either...

I have no doubt that I will get a response from my stalker, the Crazy Cat.. and she will say that I made personal attacks... If you can call asking someone who has already told us over and over again that they were an active alcoholic, and then Brag to be a Nurse, and then criticize and act superior to all the drug addicts that get arrested... I guess she doesn't get that alcohol is considered a drug, and not much difference between being addicted to cigarettes, heroin , or alcohol.. an addiction is what it is and is hard to stop.. but to clearly praise yourself, bragging that you didn't have time to be addicted because you were too busy keeping the wolf from your door ( ???????) well that is obviously not true if you were indeed an addicted to anything..I ma sure she is calling Joe as of this posting, but the bottom line is , as far as I know this girl, nor her family has ever posted or attacked anyone here, and for the Moderator to allow this type of treatment , and to dispense the rules only on and for certain people is sickening...

Oh on second thought, as much as I would like to hear what the Moderator had to say, and hear some sensible explanation, I know that is asking too much. If they were to put the Moderator on, either we would not be allowed to ask question, or they would be limited to "pansy" questions like Chris Harlan asks like >> "where did you get your tie"????????? pathetic../

I have never posted on here but I created an account just for this story. I read the article and I am appalled at what people post. I do not know this young woman nor do I know anything about the incident except what I have read in the article. But...some of the posts on here are very hurtful to the young lady and her family I am sure of this!!! How dare all of you talk about her looks on here, I am sure all of you that posted such ridiculous comments are models or just plain perfect. This is disgusting. I hope all of you that posted the nasty messages are young teens that should know better but they do not, I certainly hope you all are not adults and have posted the ugly comments. Who are you to judge what other people look like, and how insensitive is it for an adult to make fun of the way someone looks. Just pathetic!!

These anonymous boards are often brutal. It is the nature of being anonymous. While I wish everyone in the world was tender hearted, I also wish that every woman were soft and tender. By her choice she aparently wanted to appear to be a man or a male. From the head shot, hair cut and from the expression on her face, she dose not choose to be a soft, woman or to appear like a woman at all. Since it is her choice, perhaps she should be prepared to get out of the ordinary reactions when people find out she is a woman. Since you are a mom, would you slug a police officer or cut your hair like a man? Bloggers judge by what they see. What I see is a man's face and hair, though the story is about a woman. That does not compute with what I see. I do however feel sorry for the officer that knew she is a woman, and had to react accordingly, though she slugged him, like a man and caused him some pain..

Just a question. What sort of person gets satisfaction in posting anonymous insults about people whom they don't know? Does it make them feel better when they hurt someone's feelings? Why do people take the time to post these kinds of comments?

@Whoopball: Tremendous questions.Part of the answer,I believe lies in the" average" person being a follower as opposed to being a leader. So they simply do as others do,would you agree? Then,of course, who doesn't want to be as funny as Bob Hope? So there's another angle. Then think back to your teenage years, how many times did you see cold, cruel remarks made to other kids, just so the one speaking could attempt to 'elevate' themselves at the victims, expense? And why? Because the speaker often times lacked the confidence to be something very hard----- themselves, true?

So under the cloak of anonymity those bad habits are turned loose once again, agreed? So wouldn't requiring people to blog under their own names improve the manners we see here? Having said that, many people get-----in my viewpoint---what they deserve. And on that opinion we could write pro's and con's all day, could we not?

I do thank-you for the thought provoking questions, because having known Beth, as well as her family forever.I do not like her being insulted. She is a beautiful girl, with a large warm heart.Hopefully, this sad incedent will propel her to a great future,as well as teach her this sad truth about 'paying your debt to society'----'society' can be pretty darn cruel
