Tite faces hearing over house's condition

Wakeman resident Robert Tite is headed to the Huron County Common Pleas Court next month.

This time, he has to answer for property he owns that is in disrepair and is considered a “hazard” to the community.

Wakeman Village Administrator Drew Butler initially spoke to Tite, who lives on Chenango Road, about the condition of the house at 21 Pleasant St., in April 2010, according to Huron County Common Pleas Court records.

The house was struck by lightning, which damaged and burned the northeast corner of the structure. Additionally, it’s missing sections of soffit and paint.

Court records indicate there are holes in the house, many broken windows, damaged siding and a “porch is falling off the house.”

Butler also provided Tite with a copy of the village ordinance regarding the maintenance of buildings and asked that Tite repair the house within six months.

When Tite ignored the warning, the village’s solicitor, Randy Strickler, filed a motion with the court asking for help enforcing the issue. Late last year, the court ruled in the village’s favor; it ordered Tite to fix the house or tear it down, according to the case file.

“In the event it is not economically feasible to repair the aforementioned violations of the ordinance, the defendant is required to raze or demolish the structure at issue in order to abate the nuisance within 60 days from the date of this judgment,” wrote Judge Jim Conway in a judgment entry on Oct. 11, 2011.

While Tite apparently put the house up for sale, according to a sign displayed on the porch, he failed to satisfy the village’s requirements. A contempt of court hearing is scheduled for Feb. 22, according to a court spokeswoman.

A telephone number for Tite’s Chenango Road residence is out of service and no one returned phone calls to a telephone listing on the Pleasant Street house’s for sale sign.

Tite made national headlines a few years ago when he allegedly passed out drunk on a bulldozer in his neighbor’s yard after turfing a pathway to a tree where the dozer sat stationary digging up the yard. Tite and his now deceased adult son have repeatedly been in the local news over the last few years for incidents involving a number of criminal allegations, some of which resulted in convictions.

Hey, all you Tite supports....offer to help or just show up with paint and brush and go for it! This is nothing new to Mr.Tite- he has been given notice after notice after notice to make the repairs...he did nothing and now he may be facing jail time. He has had plenty of time and notice to make the repairs. I do not feel sorry for him anymore. We all have bad luck at some time but that is not an excuse to neglect responsibility. That home is his responsibility and he is accountable for it as long as he owns it....and asking $95,000+ he will probably continue to own it....he has turned down reasoanble offers from parties willing to buy it and repair it. It once was a beautiful home, it is a shame how he allowed it to get into the condition it is in now. I wish Bob could "clean up" his act, leave the drugs and alcohol behind. Once Bob had it all- good wife, great kids, fantastic job but he lost it all because he made the wrong choices- he traded most of what he had for drinking and drugs. He could have that house fixed in a matter of weeks if he wanted too-but again another bad choice- the choice to ignore all the notices now may lead him back to jail again.

First of all why does wakeman insist on picking on this man?? Why does his past and his son Tony have anything to do with the condition of this house?? The reflector has no respect for its readers or the community it serves. Leave this man alone!!!! If any of you knew him personally maybe you would shut your mouths. If i lived in wakeman i would be more concerned about making sure the heroin problem doesnt take over my town instead of worrying about a house that could use some paint. I think we have all made bad choices in life just because are problems dont make the paper doesn't mean your any better then the next person. GOD is the only one who can judge people!!!!! So all you people who think you know it all just wait til it is your turn to talk to Your maker what will he have to say to you?? This man gave his time to support his country how many of you finger pointers can say that. Freedom isnt free!!!!

IDK..But I have pics of our grandparents house in the early '30s, and they were well known folks in Huron County... Their home looked remarkably like this home, except for the fact that their home at the time, had NO paint on it! Grandpa worked for the county and was a trustee of their township.. Had 5 kids, a huge garden that fed most of the township/county..with the left over. Everyone could claim they knew them.. But, their house was definately not up to par compared to now-a-days. But people were in a DEPRESSION back then, just like NOW! Please give folks a break! So long as it is not "junky" on the property, people are just trying to survive. Not all folks are like this Mr. Hite, they are good folks! But then, you can't prosecute Mr. White and not the "good folks." What ever has happened to the "neighborly" feelings among people now, in these hard times? Used to be that Scout troups or schools or work release or "Christian" groups would help out the folks that can't afford to keep up the outside of their homes,it gave them a sense of community and taught them a work ethic and Compassion! It is so sad that people are on here ready to "scarf" up a property for pennies, just to make a profit from someone's misery, when it would be cheaper and be more humane, to just help out a neighbor and improve your neighborhood at the same time. :)

I just verified taxes are behind and I would pay the back taxes to have that house. It has 11 rooms 4 of them being bedrooms, 2 full baths, Full basement, Kitchen, Living room, Dining room, it has 6 room just on the first floor, Both bathrooms are on the first floor (one im guessing is in the apartment part), Enclosed small back porch, 22x22 garage, 14x16 shed, It can be fixed but with Tite being an alcoholic he wont do it. I know who he is and I bet he would cut me a deal but dammit I need a number to call lol

If I had Tites number I would buy this house from him. I would fix up the outside to get the town to shut up then I would fix the inside. It would not take much to fix it up. The white newer part on the side is an apartment that can be fixed and bring in money to fix the main house. All I would be willing to give is like 2000$ yes 2000 because of what it would cost to fix it up. I could take and turn that house into something nice. Anyone know how to get ahold of him? I bet taxes are behind too but I could work a deal with the tas office and buy the house for the price of the back taxes if any. This would be a great starter fix it up house!

If there's a "for sale" sign on the porch I'm sure there'd be information on it. I just drove past this house a few days ago but didn't notice if there was a sign on the porch.
