Troopers seize more than $100,000 worth of heroin in area traffic stop

An Ohio man is facing felony drug charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized a quarter pound of marijuana, 60 bindles of powder heroin and half-a-kilo of brown heroin, worth an estimated $102,000, following a traffic stop.

The drug bust was announced just after noon today.

Troopers stopped a 2012 Chevrolet Impala, with Michigan registration, for a speed violation on the Ohio Turnpike, near milepost 135 near Oberlin, at 2:34 p.m. Thursday. Troopers observed an odor of raw marijuana and a probable cause search revealed the contraband in a backpack.

At the street level, heroin is sold in "bindles," small pieces of aluminum foil or cellophane that contain one-tenth of a gram or less.

The driver, Brett Jones, 29, of Bristolville, was charged with possession of heroin, a first-degree felony.

Jones was incarcerated in the Lorain County Jail. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison and up to a $20,000 fine.

The previous day, troopers stopped a 2011 Toyota Camry, with Ohio registration, on the turnpike, near milepost 134 in Lorain County, for a marked lanes violation.

Criminal indicators were observed and a Patrol drug-sniffing canine alerted to the vehicle.

A probable cause search revealed half-a-kilo of cocaine and a small amount of heroin, valued at $50,000.

The suspects, Ira R. Lee, 29, and Isaac B. Anderson, 25, both of Detroit, were incarcerated in the Lorain County Jail and are charged with possession of cocaine and aggravated trafficking in cocaine, both second-degree felonies; and possession of heroin, a third-degree felony.

Hurray! At least with it not be distributed in our area, our fine judges won't be bothered with the local drug dealers on their dockets, and no one will have to have their hands slapped and sent to rehab!
