@ Swiss, Obviously by the safety faux pas in the Suhr park, safety was not an issue with the former, as in, no longer in office, administration, It is not about agreeing or diasagreeing, it is about the safety of the kids using the equipment. Have you actually gone to look at it? You have missed the point completely and obviously have not read my post, you just started banging you keyboard, and injecting the former, as in no longer in office, Mayor into your comments. My concern is SAFETY, and doing the right thing to insure that. Having the children and their safety put in the forefront of the issue. The poll is ia non issue, I have NEVER and I repeat NEVER ever said they had to agree with me, just would like to see them do the right thing. My birthday will remain the same it does not matter, some where down the road I would hate to see commenters saying " I told you so " , Kat05:54 PM

perhaps council would say that it was put in the wrong location, like you want them to do... IF they felt that way?? from the sound of it I do NOT hear too many on council who think it is in the wrong location.....this is just my observation, but I am starting to think that whenever someone disagrees with your opinions and ideas, you seem to think they are not listening??? they are listening, they just have a different opinion.. Maybe this was what you main problem was with Mayor Lesch.. she didn't seem to agree with your input and ideas, and you said again that she "wasn't listening" and that she was going to "do it her way or the highway"I know it is hard to take sometimes Cat, but not everyone agrees with everyone all the time.. but that doesn't mean they are NOT listening./..I will say it is amusing to hear some say that when council members agree with them, that they are somehow the best thing Norwalk has going for it, But as soon as some council members disagree with you , then these same council members suddenly become"yes men" or "sheeples"???????09:27 AM
Kottage Kat says
Perhaps the integrity of council would be enhanced, if they would say, yes it was placed in error, and it will be corrected. I would be far more impressed by their so doing. My concern is, if someone in a W/C or otherwise handicapped wanted to go back and watch the children on the playground equipment , would it be safe for them to do so? My concern is for all who wish to avail themselves of this equipment, can they be monitered, and is it safe. Bottem line. What price can you put on the safety of the "KIDS" in Norwalk? Kat08:19 AM

It's a shame the correct decisions were not made at installation time of the equipment. Maybe a survey of the area might have told them it was a wet area and needed drainage to work?? LOL It needs to be fixed and it's to bad the people who made the incorrect decision do not have to pay for it.03:19 PM

@ Cliffy - Well didn’t I strike a nerve or 2 with you! So who at the reflector is your snitch breaking the laws of user confidentiality? Excuse me, you must have contacted Joe to put 2+2 together. Either way it doesn’t matter because I refuse to get into a pi$$ing match with you about all this. I am not hiding behind a damn thing, I just like to say things like they are, and as a result the reflector keeps deleting my user identities because people like you find my comments offensive. You sound dedicated to the park system, but so am I. When the weather is nice, I am often volunteering my own time walking in the parks with a pick stick and a bucket to pick up litter. I have been doing it for the past 5 years, and have yet to see you out there with me. It really saddens me to be down at baines in the morning picking up beer cans and bottles from under the playground equipment. You must be blind if you can’t see any problems with party hill. If you would like a real touching experience, get up some day before the sun rises and walk around the reservoir with many of our fine senior citizens who also pick up trash on their daily strolls. Sorry I am not a poetic blogger like you.01:17 PM

I don't know what is wrong with spending a little more to move it. Get it out where is can be used and functional for heaven sake. It would be like building a house complete, and realizing your rear deck is smack in the afternoon sun. Your going to fork out a little more and put up an awning, plant a tree? or just never use it and complain about in the mist of all planning you never thought about the sun and complain to god???03:27 PM

Cat I have put your name only AFTER you have posted it yourself.. stating my name is XXXXXXX and proud of it.... it is not my fault that you have selective memory and conveniently "forget" that you have told us far far too much personal information about yourself on the site, and then when someone else mentions anything you have already posted, you get Joe on your speed dial and cry like a baby....you are the hypocrite...you on the pother hand have put others names on here continually and made reference to where they live or work, and have even gone so far as to approach people at stores and even funerals and introduced yourself and then identified your user name, then you start to identify everyone else on the blog....you really need some serious help..11:36 AM
Kottage Kat says
@ Swiss, You have put my name out there multiple times, and to say this is the height of hypocrisy. You make me laugh by your nonsense, punishment?11:22 AM
swiss family says
I think it is wrong for anyone to identify another blogger in any way..I believe that there should be some kind of "punishment" for doing something like this.. According to the rules that are set up at the newspaper, everyone may set up accounts using an untraceable user name,, in my opinion it is to encourage everyone to speak freely, without being "punished" in the community for speaking up, and giving their own honest opinions and suggestions..I do understand that some people CHOOSE to openly publish their own names.. and that is their CHOICE, but to openly identify anyone.. I believe should be banned. and there ought to be some sort of retaliation .... in my opinion09:54 AM

@B.Y. Despite being fairly new to blogging.I know you have at least ---4 user i.d.'s. Let's see, there's rebel, rebel.yeller,Fritz and let's not forget 'kellybeck' did I get them all? So, B.Y. may I suggest that because -----you know you can't be trusted------that you don't trust other's ? Just asking.Either way, every elected official,I've ever spoke with say they can not function on their jobs if they read the blogs, mainly because too many bloggers------like yourself, get so darn mean, cruel and nasty. So I don't doubt for one second there are people other than you, with multiple user names. I also, don't doubt, some would vote 'Chicago style'----early and often. What I do doubt,is that the people with the courage to run for public oFFice, would depend on this poll to make their decisions
p.s. Since you used to work for park and rec shouldn't you recuse yourself from this discussion as well?

I have a serious question for all the fictional people who are voting "NO". Please share some of your reasoning with the rest of us, as to why the playground should stay where it's at??? I am not talking about a 5 paragraph response from swiss. PLEASE I IMPLORE YOU TO SHARE SOME THOUGHTS TO SUPPORT YOUR VOTING. Since so many of you are against moving it, it should be no problem to give us valid reasons as to why.11:26 PM

Cliff - try pulling your thumb out of your a$$ so you can think with some clarity. People making countless user i.d.'s is exactly what's happening. How else can you explain the magical number of "NO" votes growing so quickly? It's the very reason I don't like these polls because they can be manipulated too easily.07:05 PM

I for one, find it hard to believe that Rob or any city councilperson would base their decision on this issue on this poll. So I can not buy in to countless new user i.d.'s being made up just for this poll.If Rob or any councilperson makes their decisions based on this 'for entertainment purposes only' poll . I'd be inclined to think of them as a wimp, wouldn't you?12:22 PM

I am kind of torn on the issue myself. While I agree the equipment needs to be moved, I think the people responsible for putting it there in the first place are the ones that should pay because they totally ignored everyone that said it's not a good spot. I did vote yes for the poll though.11:09 AM
6079 Smith W says
@ -rebel: Understood. These "polls" have absolutely no scientific value and are for entertainment purposes only.11:03 AM
-rebel says
Look at the numbers in the poll about relocating the playground equipment. The people in favor of moving it were close to being about 10% ahead of those who voted "NO". Give or take within a 24 hour window, the "NO" people are now almost 10 votes ahead. It's simple math, and suspicious.08:26 AM

I hope that whoever is responsible for creating multiple user accounts is happy, for favoring leaving the jungle gym where it already stands. The average reader is not fooled by your scam of creating multiple user accounts to create false support for leaving the equipment where it is already located. Supporting the former mayor is fine, but you better accept her defeat in the elections and move on. Several of us have stated good reasons to relocate the equipment, but nobody is giving reasons why it should stay where it already is. I really hope Mayor Duncan chooses to ignore all you negative commentors, because you sound like a bunch of cry babies with no credence to back you up. If you can’t be part of the solution, then mind your own business.06:17 PM

Agree with Norwalkresident-sounds like had a little pre-meeting discussion. I don't believe for a minute that money is their issue. Sounds more like they don't want to admit that it was wrong to begin with.06:04 PM

@ norwalkresident - I think we are going to be in for a lot of future trouble with our new city council, especially when it comes to Kelly Beck and Bob Carleton. They are both nice guys, however it’s clear how neither of them are open minded to possibly changing the playground location. Don’t forget that Kelly is grass rooted in the parks and rec, and Bob is just being bull headed. Kelly has no knowledge of wetlands and is in the hip pocket of Joe our superintendant.10:12 AM
norwalkresident says
Let me tell you if this is what is in the future from our current council we are in trouble. It seems there were maybe 2 members with open mind. Maybe two and that might be stretching it. What a shame that we cannot get things started in the right direction. That statement made by Kelly Beck this is not a swamp was not smart. Maybe there is not alligators there but I thought wetlands meant it was wet. The sad part is if you look at the aerial picture (passed out at council) where it is and where they want to move it is right way to go for safety. I as a parent or grandparent would not want the restrooms blocking my view of watching my one child playing soccer and the other one far away next to a woods and back edge of a parking lot (person sitting in car observing child going unnoticed) where someone could snatch them up. Pick up the paper and see how many sexual predators’ there are out there. If you think we are a small town and this won’t happen you are living in the clouds. The park location is wrong for the main reason of the safety of the children bottom line. I could care less if swamp or no swamp. The kid’s safety is number one and if you guys don’t see this issue, God help us. I just hope I never see headlines that a child was snatch up while parents were watching soccer game in this paper. Any of you who thinks this is not an issue then you need to get out more in public and watch how parents are distracted at functions and their kids are out of site. This park is in at beginning stages. Let’s do it right so 5 years down the road everything is not in all the wrong places. .08:08 AM

Get some of them juvenile delinquents from Cleveland to come here and burn the stuff like they did twice last year in Cleveland. They'd do it for cheap dope, which, from the amount of dopeheads and druggies we have on the court dockets, we got to have a huge stash of drugs in some evidence room to pay them with. Give them that stuff that chick had stashed away in her ... body.06:24 PM

@uputwhtwhere You should come to council tonight! 7:30pm. We will all be there!05:16 PM
norwalkresident says
The best case scenario would be to get the people who made this unplanned mess to pay for it. But that is not going to happen. First for the betterment of our city they are no longer in charge of the different departments or the city. Also that means some of our current council men helped in this mess. So do they help in the cost of fixing mess? I would hope they just admit they made a mistake and the new council members do what is right and do not even start thinking like the old ones did. We spoke in the mayor election that we wanted some common sense so let’s hope the council members heard us.04:16 PM
Uputwhatwhere6 says
I don't think the city should have to pay for the screw up. I think the idiots that wouldn't listen to the ones telling them that it isn't a good idea to put it there in the first place should pay.01:23 PM

Just move the jungle gym and be done with the problem. It''s too bad we can't move it and send the bill to our former mayor since it's pretty obvious she picked the stupid location out of spite. Perhaps I missed it, but can anyone tell me a good reason why it was put in that particular spot to begin with???03:17 PM

No, the city should spend $5k to repair all the darn holes in the roads around town.11:03 AM

Could the move be accomplished through volunteerism or some other less costly method rather than the use of precious city revenue, or would that open up a legal can of worms?07:59 AM

Bravo Reflector. Common sense. Not to mention the area it sits in is the swampiest (is that a word?) area in the whole park. I live off of Eastwood and my kids like to go on the trail all the time, however, 90% of the time they are not allowed on the equipment because it is soaked.04:48 PM
Kottage Kat says
@ Reflector, Thank you so much. Nice to see a voice of reason amidst those without. Kat02:37 PM

This is not a politically correct decision, but it is the right thing to do. Anybody that has actually seen the placement of this equipment must come to one of two conclusions - 1) The planner who decided upon the placement of this equipment was totally inept in designing this park. 2) It was politically motivated vindictiveness. The playground is not near playing fields (where parents can watch a game and keep an eye on small ones) or any facility. Even though the park is expansive - comprising more than 10 acres - it sits in a remote corner, 10 feet from the yard of a property who freely exercised their right to object (or be included in the planning) and against some woods where threats to small children can lurk. I am heartened to see that our new mayor has the courage to do the right thing, knowing full well the back lash that was in store.
