Norwalk robber gets 2 years in prison

A former Norwalk and Collins resident has received a two-year prison sentence.

Jeremiah M. Bennett, 29, pleaded guilty to robbery for a Nov. 14 incident in which he entered a North Prospect Street house and attempted to rob a woman who lives there, police said.

In exchange for the guilty plea, the state agreed to dismiss one count of burglary and agreed not to pursue charges in connection with another case when Bennett took stolen material to a Cleveland pawn shop, Huron County Prosecutor Russell Leffler said.

Bennett, who was sentenced Monday, had been on probation for a June conviction of possession of heroin through Huron County Common Pleas Court. "He said he had a 10-year heroin addiction," Leffler said.

Judge Conway, Leffler and this county make me sick. This guy has been in and out of trouble almost his entire life. Once again he is in trouble, for serious charges, and of course, huron co. gives him a slap on the wrist. Facing 3 felonies, which 2 carry a minimum 5-10, and they offer him 2 years...for what?!? For him to rat on the next junkie that the judge will let off. Do your jobs moron...send idiots like this away and clean up this city!!!

What is it with this guy?! He has been in and out of correctional facilities for as long as I can remember. A career criminal! Why would the prosecutor agree to any kind of deal??? This is ridiculous! As for the woman he attempted to rob, I hope she's okay!

From his record it appears he should have had more time. At least he's off the streets for 2 years.
