Norwalk woman gets 2 DUIs in matter of hours

A Norwalk woman was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) twice in a matter of hours.

The first charge occurred Sunday after Sophia Kiriakoudis, 31, pulled into her driveway at 101 Norwood Ave. and was approached by Norwalk Police Officer Dave Daniels.

"The woman walked away from the officer after being told to stop," Sgt. Jim Montana said.

When Daniels confronted her again, Kiriakoudis identified herself. She said she hoped the officer could give her "a break," Montana said, because she said she would face a felony DUI if Daniels charged her.

It's unknown if that's accurate, but Kiriakoudis was convicted of DUI in 1999, 2001 and 2002.

Daniels administered a field sobriety test on the suspect.

"She showed several signs of being impaired," Montana said.

When Kiriakoudis was at the station, she refused to take a breath test, he said.

She then was released to a sober person.

Later, Officer Chris Hipp saw a vehicle with a familiar-looking driver go behind him on Summit Street near Linwood Avenue. Hipp then conferred with Daniels, who had initiated a traffic stop with the same vehicle.

"The vehicle must have hidden from the officer (Hipp) because he couldn't find it," Montana said.

Hipp later saw the vehicle behind him on Woodlawn Avenue. Montana said the officer stopped the vehicle near the Corwin Street railroad tracks and determined the driver was Kiriakoudis.

The woman, who again refused to submit to a breath test, was charged with another DUI and driving with a suspended license, which was related to the earlier traffic stop.

Kiriakoudis then was transported to the Huron County Jail, where she was released after posting bond.

Come on - Andy Griffith let Otis sleep it off in the jail cell. Had the police done that with her, she would have only had the one DUI! Some people eat or smoke more when they drink; apparently she drives more.

I am absolutly opposed to DUI ... 2wice in one day? Take her licence her car , throw it all on record then impose penaltys for anyone who's stupid enough to let her drive ( if she's behind the wheel of your car and your car is not filed as stolen you should be in JAIL ... take away whatever it takes before she takes someones life !

In order to help keep drunk drivers off the roadways, the Obama Administration is proposing that a new taxpayer funded program deliver free beer, wine and spirits to the residences of those who register with the federal govt. as alcoholics.

The new program is to be called: Booze not Cruise. :)

I know few people that have been picked up on DUI... But, after asking them about their exp., NONE of them said that they were released to go home, after receiving their DUI... They stayed in jail AT LEAST until their 'arraignment,' and that was at LEAST 24 hrs.! IDK... But it seems that lately the Norwalk courts/cops, are turning a 'blind eye' to this menace! JMO

Only way to protect the rest of us from these drunken fools! You think sitting for 24 hrs. is too much of an inconvenience for the drunk? Well good! Maybe they won't do it again! (right : o / )

You mean to tell me you'd lock up some one for a misdemeanor where there was no property damage, accident or injury involved, or was unruly to await a court appearance? That doesn't make sense, also does Norwalk have a jail or do they have to take them to county...and if that's the case you now have an officer off the streets and unavailable while doing so.

Didn't learn from the first time? What a shame. I wonder if she was just wanting to hit someone or cause an accident. When are drunk drivers going to realize that it's not just their lives they put in their hands but other people too?!
