M'ville DUI driver tests at 4 times legal limit

A Monroeville man's blood-alcohol content (BAC) level tested at more than four times the legal limit after a one-vehicle crash, the state Highway Patrol reported.
Gary A. Carson, 58, of 724 N. Ohio 61, was charged with his first driving under the influence citation after the crash Monday in the 1200 block of Ridge Road, Trooper Steven Drew said. Carson also was charged with failure to control.
Carson's BAC tested at .359, Drew said in his report. The legal limit for drivers in Ohio is .08.

The Reflector saw the motorist walking unsteadily after the one-vehicle collision. Capt. John Soisson and firefighter Charlie Hillman, both of the Norwalk Fire Department, assisted Carson into the back of an ambulance at one point.
At 3:10 p.m., Carson was traveling northbound on Ridge Road before the accident. Drew said the driver failed to negotiate a left-hand curve, went off the right side of the road and hit a road sign, mailbox and tree before stopping in a ditch.
Firefighters, in their report, said they stabilized the vehicle, helped Carson out of the car and into an ambulance. The crew also used a booster line to wash dirt and debris from the roadway before returning to the station at 4:10 p.m.
Norb's North Side Service towed the 2003 Honda Odyssey from the scene with a functional damage to the right side.
Carson was released to a sober person, the patrol reported.

Wow, I am glad that there are some great authorities out there that do what it takes to get these people off the roads. It seems like he was pretty far gone as far as alcohol limit. When someone drinks for an opportunity they should never drive because you never know what can happen and taking the chance it really not worth it at all.

Why is it that a few ago years b.a.c was .10 and several years before that even higher, and now its .08? A few years ago he would have been double the limit now its four times the limit? Im not defending this person but some people act like this was the Law all this time! The truth of the matter is Ohio wasn"t going to get its Highway road construction money from the federal government unless they lowered the D.u.i. level. Isn"t that like extortion or bribery? In a couple more years the level will be .06 then the driver will be six times the legal limit and the helpless sheeples will be like oh my god this man should be put in prison for life! What will happen when Washington says " fill in the blank" or lose your highway funding? See how dangerouse this manipulation can be?11:12 AM

I agree. I once had a breathalyzer at .095 and I was friggin smashed and that was 1988 when the limit was .1 and I was let go by the Norwalk PD. I couldn't imagine even being able to find the gearshift at .359.12:31 PM

sure he was drunk that is not the intention of the previous post. Just a fact as time goes on, people are manipulated in thinking things are worst, so the government can have more control on people and collect more fines. My goodness try being a truck driver under federal guidelines dui is at .04...08:13 PM

Folks sorry to say but the law is the law, 1/2 a beer or 12 beers in a 3 hr timeframe DUI is a DUI. the end. 71 mph or 125 mph is still over 15 over speed limit/ considered reckless opt. If your gonna do it do it big time i guess. Not saying .. just saying. Who cares about the amount you bunch of whiners, drunk driving is wrong period. Theft.. candy bar or wide screen or BMW, should all be the same in my opinion.01:28 PM

Being killed by a drunk driver is not the worse thing that can happen to you. I know someone who was hit by a drunk driver two months after graduation and was in a coma for months. She is brain damaged and cannot do for herself. This happened almost 30 years ago. It changed her and her family's life forever. This woman will have to be taken care of for the rest of her life (if that is what you want to call it).12:34 PM

That's a recipe for a head on collision with any one of us, he needs to get hit hard for this but I doubt the fine and mandatory couple of days in slammer will do anything to deter a guy who gets that plastered in the middle of the day.08:11 AM

At 3:10pm and tested a .359? My god, that is blasted! He is lucky he didnt kill someone, especially with all the kids driving home from school at that time. Unfortunately, if this is his first offense, he will get slapped on the wrist. Not the judge's fault, it's the sentencing guidelines. What a POS.01:33 PM

RELEASED?! You have GOT to be kidding me! I know younger folks with a 1st time, low BAC reading....Spend the week-end in jail, if busted on a Fri. !! Overnight at the very least! WHO does one have to know to get 'special' treatment? I mean, gosh, out there 4 Times the limit, which is basically like driving a 'Time Bomb, ready to KILL someone at any moment.....A person old enough to know better at that! And let him just "go home with a sober party!" How do you know he won't get behind the wheel again?! It has happened before in the county, several times in the past year. I am really ticked! Especially when I read about a couple, carrying small amounts of pot and brownies, sit in jail and face felony charges, and they hurt no one, nor damaged anyone!! This has got to change.10:15 PM
