Norwalk man denies being hit-skip driver

A Norwalk man convicted of a DUI earlier this month and awaiting trial for felony charges has denied being the driver in a recent hit-skip crash.

Dominic J. Ursetti, 20, currently of 5144 U.S. 250, Lot 39, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to maintain assured clear distance and driving with a suspended license in connection with a hit-skip crash Sunday. The accident happened about 1:15 p.m. at the intersection of League Street and Milan Avenue.

There were no injuries in the rear-end collision with the 2008 Saturn View sport utility vehicle (SUV) driven by Cheryl A. Brought, 47, of 84 N. Foster St. There was minor, functional damage to the rear of the SUV.

Sgt. Jim Montana said the driver of a 2006 Dodge 4x4 pickup truck hit the rear of Brought's SUV and fled the scene.

"He (Ursetti) denied ever driving it," Montana said.

"The license plate for the suspect vehicle was left at the scene. It fell off during the crash," he said.

Police traced the truck to a Spino Court address.

Later, officers determined the truck was in a local driveway with front-end damage. Police seized the vehicle as evidence about 3:30 a.m. Monday.

The homeowner called police later that morning to report his truck was stolen, but police explained that it had been seized.

Ursetti is a friend of the homeowner's daughter, Montana said.

"He was there with the daughter. The daughter was a passenger in the (suspect) vehicle," Montana said.

Police later released the truck to the owner.

Earlier this month, Ursetti was convicted of driving while intoxicated following a crash on Arcade Road, where he formally resided.

The crash occurred Jan. 16, and his conviction was on Jan. 23. Ursetti was sentenced to three days in jail, fined $750 plus $75 in court courts and given a six-month license suspension. However, he would receive credit for the jail time and $250 of the fine if he completed of an alternative incarceration program.

Ursetti also was told he could be forced to serve up to 87 additional days in jail if he violated the terms of his two years' probation -- terms that included no convictions for two years.

Ursetti has been free on bond awaiting trial for a pair of criminal cases.

Ursetti was indicted on a felony charge of theft in September. The following month, while out on bond, he was arrested again, this time on a heroin charge after he and a 19-year-old woman were stopped during a prowler investigation on Gallup Avenue.

Ursetti and Keily M. Peterson, 19, who had been living with Ursetti on Arcade Road, each were indicted on one count each of possession of heroin. He is scheduled to stand trial Feb. 16 in Huron County Common Pleas Court.

The license plate for the suspect vehicle was left at the scene. It fell off during the crash," he said. and he claims he innocent....even though he was convicted for the exact same thing just 15 days ago. How many vehicles does he have to wreck while drunk before he goes to prison time?.

Him and ms. clifton / laney are perfect for eachother! Neither of them will go anywhere in life so they mise well go no where together. On another note I find it unfair to the other girl involved on the previous charges. I do not know her never even met her, but for the paper to put her name and charges repeatedly every time this guy is charged with something that has nothing to do with her is ridiculous.

Judge Conway, obviously we seem to be seeing a repetitive pattern with this guy. I am sure the witnesses at the scene identified him as the driver? It is time to put this idiot away. Maybe he will learn a lesson in prison. Since this is a traffic accident, maybe Judge Ridge will do something about this guy.
