East and West Main could both be closed in Norwalk this summer

Norwalk will be home to major construction projects during the next two years.

Josh Snyder, city public works director, is warning Maple City motorists that this summer, East Main and West Main streets will likely be torn up at the same time.

To find out more details about the pair of road projects, pick up a copy of Thursday's Reflector.

New construction is Great! The problem is projects start in may and don"t end till sept. If traffic is detoured properly and the traffic lights synchronized correctly, Then the impact is much less.

Let the nattering nabobs of negativism reign. What would the small minded naysayers have to do if positive, get-things-done type of people didn't take the slings and arrows of those with limited vision? Why ruin the fun of uninformed worst case speculation when you could wait until you learned the whole story before spouting off? The fact of the matter is that traffic will be maintained. Short spans of Main will be one lane with temporary traffic lights controlling flow. These areas will move as the project goes along. All businesses will have continual access. This project will not require a detour that routes traffic around businesses. This project is a necessary infrastructure repair done with sensitivity for those effected.

@ Whoopball: So all affected enterprises can be assured of continued commercial activity with little-to-no potential loss in revenue?

A VP Agnew fan eh?

@Smith: That was cool.I hadn't----thankfully----heard Spiro Agnew's name in quite a while.Having said that,I have a 'problem' with you.You still haven't responded to the word 'shibboleth' or something like that.I found it in the W.S.J. article about Clint Eastwood, then left a comment in the 'Super Bowl' ad article asking you about.Then,nothing.

So here I've been all week wondering;'What does Smith think of that word'? Well?

@ Cliff Cannon: Shibboleth? I enjoy the WSJ for its adult and educated content and vocab. I thought that you were merely asking me a rhetorical question.

Yes. For several yrs. I studied comparative religions and was familiar with the term.

@ Smith: No I was in earnest, 'shibboleth' was a completly new word to me.However,as I noted, I love new words.Just something about dictionary's that I never tire of them.Although guilty,I do wonder why writers use words that they know their readers won't understand. To wit one of my favorites: 'oleaginous' of course in it's base it's a oil or scum on water.Properly used in a sentence it's a polite way of telling some one that they are 'pond scum',so I only use it in 'polite conversation' with dogmatic knuckeheads :)

Hey trucker-hater.. Some roads are zoned ok for trks while others not..detours sometime makes exceptions, deal with it. Most guys/gals watch detours and at times for the out of town-er, they just get twisted around during small town congestion. follow the traffic kinda thing. But i am sure you being the pillar of YOUR community have never got "twisted" around. probably because you NEVER get out of this town.. Think. If a trk makes a quick turn/wrong turn/told to make a left when he should have made a right, whatever happened. Whats he/she supposed to do, except continue.. All you want is them D@$m truckers to pay...

Why don't they just do things in phases like they did with East Main? Nothing like ripping up the streets during the highest traffic time of the year-Cedar Point Season. I am not saying that main street doesn't need fixed, but the city needs to be a bit smarter about how they do it. I hope this isn't an indication of how things are going to run, now that we have a new mayor.
