Drunk driver accused of hit-skip

A drunk driver was charged with two drug offenses and became verbally abusive toward police during the investigation of an earlier hit-skip accident.

At 12:30 a.m. Monday, the Norwalk Police Department received a report from the state Highway Patrol about a possibly intoxicated driver who was driving westbound on Woodlawn Avenue from Old State Road. According to troopers, the suspect reportedly had been involved in an earlier hit-skip accident, police said.

"The truck was being followed by North Central EMS," Officer Chris Kelley wrote in his report.

Paramedics had found the driver, Jason M. Hamm, 31, of 12 Homewood Ave., passed out in a red Chevrolet truck in an Ohio 601 ditch, Sgt. Jim Montana said. "Obviously they woke him and he drove away from the scene."
