47°Big Lots moving to former Apple's location

Big Lots is making plans to relocate into the former Apple's grocery store in Norwalk this fall.
Located on U.S. 20 at the very edge of the city limits since the mid-1980s, Big Lots will move across town to the Norwalk Korners Plaza in September, when the lease for its current location expires.
The city of Norwalk just issued Big Lots the proper permits to get the project moving.
Allison Hodson, city planning and zoning officer, had the plans in her office Monday.
"They are trying for September," Hodson said about a grand opening at the new location.
"They are not doing a whole lot inside," she added.
Hodson said the plans indicate the former Hallmark store next door to Apple's will also be used by Big Lots as the furniture area. Apple's went out of business in December 2008, and Hallmark closed in February 2010.
"They are putting in shelves and the plumbing and fire will be the same," Hodson said. "They already had a sprinkler system."
Hodson said offices are in the back, but wasn't sure if Big Lots personnel would use that area.
Big Lots is going from its 60,000-square-foot facility on U.S. 20 to 36,000 square feet at Norwalk Korners Plaza.
Hodson, who also has a degree in urban planning, talked about what the move could mean for Big Lots.
"I think it will be better for business," she said. "There is more traffic out there and it's close to Walmart. There will be more people in the area looking for deals."
Hodson said the signs will be updated at the new location.
"Right now, inside the store, the only thing that is marked on the plans are the shelves for greeting cards and books," she said.
The plans also show there will be five check-outs with bag spinners.
Cletus Miller, Norwalk Big Lots manager, said Monday he could not comment.

If I recall the City took some parking lot from a store and ran a street right thur it. At the end of cline so I would thank the sign belong to Norwalk they zoned that street, I beleave it was a for way stop once.. May they will put up a stop light there. REALLY02:26 AM

I can tell you one thang for sure about the two stop signs. On the corner of McDonald's and behind the bank!! Only time anybody stops is if cars are pulling into or out of that parking lot.... Two yrs ago I was teaching my oldest to drive and we watched cars for 10 mins run the signs, last week watch the same thing again, REALLY I don't want to tell anybody how to do there job, But the city could make alot of money writing tickets there all day long? Or maybe they will be there when cars start crashing....12:59 AM

I hate to see Big Lots move. I live on the west side of the store and it was easy to access. If I have to go over to the VERY busy section of town, then I will probably just skip it.10:20 PM

Good luck on the deals,they chased alot of people away,you can buy NEW stuff at cheaper prices at walmart than at big lots. I think their merchandise is from truck wrecks and the such,who knows,but they aren't no where as cheap price wise as they used to be.01:14 PM
