Monroeville senior accused of sexual contact with Wakeman girl, 15

By CARY ASHBY - Reflector Staff Writer | Tuesday March 02 2010, 1:07pm

MONROEVILLE - Prosecutors are reviewing the case of an 18-year-old Monroeville man accused of having sexual contact with a 15-year-old Wakeman girl.

The girl told Monroeville police officers the man put his hand down her pants and attempted to have sex with her Feb. 20 after he picked her up at her home and drove her to his house. The man, who is a senior at Monroeville High School, told police he and the girl were sitting on opposite ends of a couch and started to make out when things became more involved, all of which he believed was consensual.

About four hours before Sgt. Frank Gleason interviewed the suspect, he obtained permission from the girl's parents to set up a "phone recording patch" and had the girl call the man to talk about the incident.

"In the recorded call, (the suspect) admitted to guilt of some type, stating 'This could ruin me' and 'I could go to jail or even prison.' However, he stated, 'We didn't have sex,'" Gleason said in his report.

Norwalk Assistant Law Director T. Douglas Clifford received the police report Monday.

"The matter is still being investigated. ... We're still reviewing it for charges," Clifford said.

The girl reported the incident Thursday to her Spanish teacher because the student said "she can trust her and she has gone to her with other problems," Officer Troy Kimball wrote in his report. The teacher spoke to the student's guidance counselor, who then contacted her parents.

When Kimball asked the girl why she waited to tell anyone, she said she was scared and "couldn't tell her parents, but needed to get it off her mind," Kimball said.

During their separate interviews, the girl said she told the man to stop putting his hand down her pants and requested to be taken home because she knew "things had the potential of going further," while the suspect said he never heard the girl say stop, police said. The girl and the man gave officers conflicting reports of what the girl was wearing; she said she had on jeans while the man said the girl wore sweatpants.

Both subjects told police the man's father came home in the middle of the incident and the suspect told the girl to hide in his closet, which both subjects said she did until the father fell asleep about 20 minutes later. The suspect later drove the girl home.

Chief Mike Ruggles was asked about the credibility of either subject's statements. While he declined to comment on what his gut instinct told him, the chief said officers have been able to "pick up on little things" during the various interviews. Ruggles declined to elaborate.

That's better.

I have to agree, she changed her mind afterwards. Why didn't she say anything to his father? Why didn't she just leave and call a parent to pick her up instead of having him drive her home. Something's fishy here.

Is this the worst thing happening in Monroeville that they had to set up a "phone recording patch"? They couldn't just go pick him up or have him go to the police station? Wouldn't want the man to lawyer up. "

" This really ticks me off. This "little girl" was in a boys bedroom. What the heck kind of message did she think she sent to this guy? Another prime example of kids trying to grow up to quickly. My parents taught me better than that. No boys in your room and you don't go to a boys room. Also, if she thought she was in so much danger, why didn't she let the dad know she was there. I am POSITIVE he would have kept her safe! Guilty feelings is right. Now question her....Is she a fast female with an agenda. That's what I hear. "

Did she report it in Spanish? Because I seem to remember only being allowed to communicate in Spanish to that teacher when I was in high school. "

She's still hiding. She would trade not just her own freedom for safety, but everyone else's. She would probably trade her very soul for the chance to feel safe. "

The hypocritical balderdash, and failure to define clearly any and all statements with fact, indicate that a deep seeded need is present to be right, and to malign others to make oneself look "important", and to do so with high verbage, and critisim, boardering on cruelty to others, is what is seen.
The "shame" should be hers, as others make fun of the nonsense it churns out on a regular basis. Obviously not quite grasping the concept.
However, the basic entertainment value is there. And I enjoy the laughter brought on by the comments.
Sorry I was off topic. "

MW: Excellent points. Not much use arguing with swiss, however. Everyone is guilty 'til proven innocent in her eyes, and everyone should be punished to the fullest extent of the law!

Many of us have expressed the opinion that swiss hates kids, but it's becoming clear that her problems run deeper than that. Swiss lives in fear, seeing vicious criminals all around her, waiting for the chance to make her their next victim.

What swiss wants is to turn the earth into stepford world, starting with the kids. She wants them all to become polite, obedient little robots. And if they won't, she wants them locked up. Kinda pathetic, really. "

This is just high school drama and should be left at that - in the HIGH SCHOOL! "

I will apologize to you though,, because now knowing your age, it is quite possible that I was one of the kids making fun of you for all of your shortcomings.. but seeing you with your poopy pants on the ground!! we were just trying to humiliate you into taking the potty training seriously.. we didn't know it would leave such deep wounds..

as for being an adult at 18.. that is different.. you see that coming a long way off..most parents will remind you frequently about .. "in 2 months, you will be 18, what will you do then" so you can focus on the choices that you are currently making, and you realize that in 2 months you will BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS AS AN ADULT!!!!!see how that works???? you see it coming, and you know that at the current time you are shielded under an umbrella of protection that will disappear at 18....I think that most people understand that concept... and I am sorry that you got it so confused.. and if you are still saying that at 45 you still haven't had that birthday where you feel the big change of adulthood.... well at least by now I hope that you are potty trained, and can ride a bike!!!! Most Wanted wrote on Mar 10, 2010 7:06 PM:

" I'm so sick of hearing HE'S 18, HE'S A MAN, HE SHOULD KNOW BETTER!!!!

You should be potty trained by the time you are two. If you are not, do we make you wear underwear and walk around in poopy pants all day until you grow up and do it in the toilet? No, we all get it at different times.

You should be ready for kindergarten when you are five. If you cry like a baby the first week, do they kick you out and beat you? No, we all get comfortable at school at different times.

You should be able to ride a bike without training wheels when you are six. If you can't, do we throw your bike away? No, we keep learning until we get it.

You should start puberty at age 13. If your late, does that mean you aren't normal? Again, it happens when it happens.

You should get your drivers license at age 16. If you are a sucky driver and can't pass the test, should we let you drive anyways? No, we wait until the common sense kicks in a little more.

There are age "mindsets" for everything. For some reason everyone has it in their mind that the day you turn 18, you are suppose to wake up and be this perfect being and feel all different and grown up. That just doesn't happen to most of us, especially young men. How many of you "adults" can sit here and say the day I turned 18 I was a new person? You can't. As young adults, we all have this little internal switch. Some of us turn it on early, some of us don't. The important thing for us to remember is it doesn't get turned on until the person himself is ready. It's different for every person.

I've had 45 birthdays to date. Not one of them have I ever woke up in the morning and felt like a different person. I guess I just haven't had that life changing birthday yet.

Also, a high school student at age 18, probably just turned 18. He's still living at home, just the way he always had. Under the care of parents who still probably provide most of his belongings. He hasn't lived on the outside yet. He's just a senior trying to enjoy the last few months of freedom before he has to start worrying about the real world. He's a kid who isn't quite there yet. "

Yeah, good points alright, however, the minute the guy turns 18 (whether or not he's still in high school)...all I'm saying is guys need to learn to be smarter --being horny is NO excuse, heck they could go in the bathroom & choke it. Why put yourself in that postion, in the first place? Just like the 18 year old at Edison, they need to learn to be smarter. Same for the girls. Sadly, that will never happen. These kids nowadays think they can do whatever the hell they want with no consequences. "

Why is or should the school be involved in something that happened at his house, on the weekend? Has he been charged with anything? As far as I can read above it sounds like Suzy Q felt guilty for fooling around and decided afterwards she was taken advantage of. What business is that to the school? I could understand if the kid was CHARGED with RAPE but that is not the case. It's he said, she said at this point and no sex was even involved, just too many darn hormones. "

If she said "no" like they said, then it's another ballgame. The school system says that the kids represent the school 24/7. So the school should be in charge of what happens to this young man. And we should call this young man Kobie Bryant. Yea, words probably spelled wrong. Anyway, this kid is not guilty according to how society is these days. They both are, or aren't. I only wish he'd played in the game last night. WE lost without him. If we'd of had him, maybe WE would have won. "

I am not condoning sex at the age of these two kids but in no way does it make this boy a molester or a preditor. I cannot believe the Monroeville PD thought they needed a phone recording patch. Isn't that a bit much drama? They are high school teenagers and I can guarantee you that the 15 year old is not completely innocent. No excuses for either of them but I think nailing him for a crime is too much. I agree with Most Wanted....both sexes are horny and at these ages, are not thinking of the consequences. Instead of nailing these kids, maybe we should put some of our resources into more education about not only the consequences of a sexual relationship but also about age appropriate behaviors. I also so love how the newspaper will refer to an 18 year old as a teenager when they want to soften the story but refer an 18 year old as a man when it suits their purposes for dramatic effect. "
