Fashion Bug to close in January

By JOE CENTERS - Reflector Managing Editor | Wednesday December 02 2009, 12:19pm

Fashion Bug in Norwalk is closing.

Assistant manager Mollie Cassidy said Tuesday the store, located near Walmart, would close in January.

"I've been with the company three years," Cassidy said. "I started here then transferred to Vermilion. When that store closed in the end of October I transferred back here.

"I love it. I absolutely love my job. I love retail and I am a people person."

" Fashion Bug is the worlds most boring store with JoAnn Fabrics a close second. Why can't we get a really good, classy strip club in this town. No skinny chics though. Only big girls.

Oh wait... I just had a moment of pure genius. Ok, you know how sometimes you need to get a CT scan, but also you are hungry for a delicious hot dog? How about combining the two and calling it CATS and DOGS!!!

How about this... Have you ever wanted to purchase a dozen or so military-grade snakes? But wait, you also wanted to pick up a gourmet cake on the same trip? Well dream no more. I give you SNAKES and CAKES!!!

People, we can make this town great again, like back in the days when women were not allowed to vote and had to keep quiet in public. "

She's just obsessed with her! It's like a classic love story- girl meets girl- girls pull each others hair-girls push each other on playground-then girls have a slumber party, a pillow fight, play HA and kiss and make up.
The End.

With consumer spending and credit down, many retail stores are having difficulty paying their rent, which is putting the malls in jeopardy of defaulting on their commercial mortgages.

I'm afraid going forward that we'll see a lot of retail stores closing in addition to whole chains going under.

Residential mortgages were and are still a problem, but now commercial mortgages are increasingly being added to mix.

Probably no bailout from DC for them. "

" This is not about the Library it is about a clothing store and commerce in the "Maple City".
Mr. Smith, you are wealth of information and facts. Could you please cite the source of your readings??? It saddens me to see Border's close their doors, if indeed that is going to happen. I like the coffee shop. "

" again. with the availability ans access to the books, and information on the Internet, maybe we have reached a time when it is no longer necessary for every small town to have their own library..when you consider all of the employees, and their pay, and benefit package, and the general upkeep of the building, and grounds, and all of the utilities etc.. and factoring into the reality that most small towns are less than 5 minutes away by our modes of transportation... maybe it is time to reconsider the need for all of the library's.. "

" A bookstore? Good luck with that.

After Amazon.com started up, bookstore owners noticed that people would come into their store, scrutinize a book and then go home and order it from Amazon, usually for less cost.

I read a business piece the other day, which had the opinion that Borders will not remain in business for much longer.

Also, people don't read. The last stats I read said that pretty much 100% of books are bought by 20% of the population.

Essentially, Norwalk's economic fate lies in the halls of Columbus with their tax and business regulation policies. "

" I would like to see a GOOD bookstore open up, like the gentleman in Plymouth, taking a survey to see what people want would be the basis for perhaps having success.
Fashion Bug has had a good run, and survived far longer than most. I wish the best of luck to any business that wanders into the sea of negativity that our city leaders imbue. They slap you when you are getting here, and smile and hug you when the ribbon is cut. Hypocrisy at it's finest. They should also embrace "longevity" of the businesses that are willing to take a chance on " Tumbleweed City" "

How I see it wrote on Dec 3, 2009 5:58 AM:

" is it's all about economy whether good or bad. Fashion Bug is a niche store and they're usually the first to go in a bad economy. Mom and Pop have it hard enough when times are good let alone when times are not. The campaign signs may not have been the reason the Invention closed but it certainly didn't help. I for one ignored the signs and went in anyway because I liked the food as well as the prices. Now the food is substandard compared to before, the prices are much higher and the menu is unreadable. You have to use your head. Too many people open small businesses catering to what they themselves like ignoring what the local demographics show. Do not isolate your customer base unless you are in an area where that may be conducive. When you reopen a business that people liked before, don't change it. If it worked before, leave it alone and keep your political and religious views to yourself. It's the economy stupid. Take everybody's money not just the ones you agree with. "

" Regarding my post below, I'm NOT skinny myself, but I have a sense a humor. As far as another store closing I agree with all of you. I have been saying the same thing since The Invention closed in Milan a year ago. But back then everyone kept telling me it was because of the Obama 08 sign in the window. Bull sh*t. The Invention has re-opened and buisness is dead. Like the saying goes, "its the economy stupid". "

" Yes this is sad that we are losing another store and a few employees without a job, loss tax dollars plus have another empty building. Folks I don't think we have even seen the worst of this yet. You wait till December the 31st and I bet we will see things really start tumbling. Most businesses are real sweating bullets now and they have the worst 2 months for business coming (Jan. Feb.). Most businesses whether it is department stores or restaurants, have their slowest time of the year then. Some businesses are really going to be put to the test then. Just look at all the restaurant discounts that are out there right now. Do you really think McDonalds are making money on a 49 cents hamburger? They are just trying to get people in the door and hope they buy something else. This is called trying to get some cash flow. Look at all the dollar sandwiches or dollar menu out there in fast food. Again cash flow but they can only do this for so long and they will be closing their doors. Every business out there big or small is sweating bullets with the fear of Jan. and Feb. coming and hoping and praying to God they can make it thru this for few more months. Things have just begun for store closing sorry to say. "

" Smith- good post but it lost on most of the readers. They can't see the bigger picture and only take for granted that an anchor store they've never visited is going under.

For most them, they'll never realize the loss until they see yet another vacant store front. They can laugh all they want about the store catering to larger size women but guess what? The majority of our population is fat whether you like to admit or not. Enjoy your wife dressed in off the rack fat lady Wal Mart clothing.

Back on point, taxable monies are lost with their closing which further reduces the revenue for overal budget. Lost jobs, empty storefronts and Norwalk will be what it was in the 70's, another hick town with hicks running it. "

" According to a Gallup Poll, Thanksgiving Day wkend sales were off 25% from '08.

So far this year, consumer retail spending has been crummy and many retailers do 50% of their sales during the holiday season. They've got a LOT of ground to make up.

If the Gallup Poll is any indication of how the holiday season will go, a lot of national retailers are in trouble.

Some retail analysts are saying that if sales don't improve, some national retailers may eventually file for bankruptcy.

Laugh all you want about one little retail store in Norwalk shutting its doors, but there very well may be a few more come 2010.

Typically, when one factory lays off hundreds, it's big news, when a couple people lose their jobs few notice.

Whether one company lays off one hundred employees, or one hundred companies lay off one employee, the number of unemployed is equal.

This is sad news. "
