Sunny & Cher
Proving she’s not entirely “Moonstruck” over Las Vegas, pop diva Cher has returned to Los Angeles after her stint in Sin City and bought herself a new home in Beverly Hills. Cher paid $2.145 million for her new 3,089-square-foot abode, purchased via the same trust used to buy the Malibu home now inhabited by her sister.
The newly acquired 90210 home replaces the Venice Beach property Cher sold earlier this year, which has been a doozy for the sanguine disco crooner who has a newly released single “Woman’s World” and a record set to drop this fall.
At least now Cher will have a nice place to chillax after all the hustle and bustle: Her new property is over just half an acre, with a patio and courtyard off the living room and kitchen, and a lush, landscaped backyard with a waterfall and meditation space.
Lord of the Longhorns
Austin is a mecca for music, technology-sector businesses and home to the University of Texas, giving it a vibrant edge for all kinds of enterprises and architecture. But for “Lord of the Rings” star Elijah Wood, the Texas capital is a place to flaunt convention.
Why buy an Austin-area lake house like Lance Armstrong, or a Mediterranean manse like Matthew McConaughey when you can buy a … Victorian?
The 32-year-old actor quietly purchased 123-year-old home that’s still decked out in its classic gingerbread trim and gables. Records show that Wood paid $1.075 million for the historic home, but he doesn’t have to settle for outdoor plumbing or gas lamps.
The 4-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom interior has been completely renovated, including fresh woodwork, large windows and some open living spaces and a sleek gourmet kitchen that doesn’t offend the old-school vibe of the home.
Same Swank Price
Two-time Academy Award winner Hilary Swank is once again trying to sell her Pacific Palisades home. The Washington-state-born star has relisted her home at 439 Paseo Miramar gated for $9.495 million. She first listed the ocean-view property at that price back in 2012 before it fell off the Multiple Listing Service, but is taking another shot at finding a buyer.
Comings, Goings & Updates
• Ed Asner has listed his home at 3556 Mound View Ave in Studio City, Calif., for $1.5 million. He and his former wife Cindy Gilmore bought the house for $540,000 and lived in the 2,783-square-foot ranch before their split in 2007. The former Lou Grant on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” is showing no signs of slowing down, as he currently stars on “The Glades,” and finds time to appear on Betty White’s TV comedy “Off Their Rockers.”
• Vince Vaughn has listed his townhouse in the prestigious City Club development in Chicago for rent for $9,500 a month. It may sound like a big rent, but it’s a big penthouse that sprawls over 4,000 square feet and includes a three-car garage, home theater and rooftop deck. Vaughn and his wife, Kyla, are expecting their second child in August. They live in Los Angeles in a La Canada Flintridge section home they recently purchased.
• Carole King’s singer/songwriting career has soared over six decades and taken her from Brooklyn to California to Idaho, where she spent nearly 20 years transforming Idaho’s Robinson Bar Ranch into an environmentally friendly residence heated by hot springs. But after trying to sell the ranch for the past five years has proved fruitless. She has again dropped the price on the 128-acre property to $9.9 million, down from 11.9 million earlier this year. She originally listed it for $19 million and tried it at 16 million in 2011.
• Howard Hughes’ former Lake Tahoe estate at 26 Calaneva Dr, Crystal Bay in Nevada is listed for $19.5 million. The vacation home was designed to emulate cabins in New York’s Adirondacks by former Nevada Gov. Tasker Oddie before Hughes bought in during the 1950s. The 2,518-square foot home sits on five parcels and includes a guest cottage all overlooking the lake. The property stayed in the Hughes estate until 1995, when its current owners purchased it.
