Bob Hope’s Modernist Marvel Hits Market

It was only fitting that legendary entertainer Bob Hope would have owned one of the most iconic homes in one of the most iconic resort areas for all of Hollywood’s stars. Now the John Lautner-designed modernist home in Palm Springs designed specifically for Hope has hit the market for a cool $50 million.

The price tag may seem sky-high, but it fits the bill for this 23,000-square-foot home perched on a hill overlooking the Coachella Valley. With 6 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, a pool, tennis court and various outdoor spaces, the property is an architectural gem constructed of concrete, steel and glass that was made to look like a volcano. Before his death in 2003 at age 100, Hope and his wife, Dolores, entertained A-list actor friends at the famous home, including Tony Bennett and Glenn Campbell. Now it will be curious to see who gets the one-of-a-kind property, and what they do with the historically significant space.

For Swift’s Cape Cod Real Estate Foray, Easy Come, Easy Go

Taylor Swift’s passion last year for a certain Kennedy clan teenager was swiftly diminished, leaving the pop-country star with a $4.8 million dilemma: the home she bought just a stone’s throw from the Kennedy compound in Hyannis. But given the bounce-back credentials of this attractive and plucky entertainer, it should come as little surprise that not only did Swift part with the Cape Cod property, she did so at a profit. Reports out of Barnstable real estate circles has it that Swift netted $5.675 million for the 1928 home on 1.1 acres. Swift may croon about never getting back together with her ex’s, but at least there’s profit in some of her notorious breakups.

Ramona Lived Here

The childhood home of one of children’s literatures’ greatest stars is up for sale. In Portland, Ore., the little Craftsman on Hancock Street where Beverly Clearly grew up – and where inspiration was drawn for the “Ramona the Pest” series – is priced at $362,000. With 2 bedrooms in just over 1,200 square feet, the place may be small, but it is mighty among the millions of Cleary fans all over the world who came to relish the quintessentially American upbringing of this lovably feisty young comic heroine – and the generous author who brought her to life.

Quaid Signs House Over to Ex & Twins

First it was Meg Ryan. Now it’s Kimberly Buffington-Quaid who’s divorcing the Hollywood actor, which means Dennis Quaid has had to sign over his Pacific Palisades home.

Buffington and the couple’s young twins will be setting up shop in the sleek 4-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom home with a pool and ocean views. As for Quaid, who’s currently starring in the TV series “Vegas,” he won’t likely be living on his Montana ranch. After 30 years, Quaid has listed the sprawling estate near Yellowstone National Park for $14 million. Last year, the rough and tumble Texan sold his equestrian ranch in Pacific Palisades for $9.5 million.
